BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Penn State Smeal Center for Supply Chain Research hosted its first Artificial Intelligence Special Interest Collective on November 11 (its debut event) where 40 business leaders and academics discussed AI uses in supply chain management. The full-day program featured eight sessions and 12 speakers (including Dan Ives who gave a keynote on the AI Revolution) and highlighted practical AI strategies for supply chains.  Penn State

  • Students finalized off-campus housing choices as they weighed rent, location, and amenities when selecting options that met their needs. Some opted for apartments with modern comforts while others chose fraternity houses for lower rent and a built-in community—factors that shaped their decisions.  Daily Collegian

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A Penn State research team is studying how people in the Northeast get, understand, and trust smoke alerts—testing information from government agencies, news outlets, and social media—to help make the warnings clearer and more effective.  Penn State

  • Former Penn State football commit Davion Brown flipped to join Virginia Tech after he decommitted from Penn State on October 13 following coach James Franklin's firing (he is the eighth recruit and the first wide receiver to switch).  Onward State
  • Penn State Wrestling kept its No. 1 ranking as eight team members finished in the top ten, with Aaron Nagao rising to No. 8 despite an injury during the Black Knight Invitational finals. The team will face Drexel on December 5 at 7:30 p.m.—the match will be streamed on FloWrestling as the season continues.  Onward State
  • Penn State women’s volleyball senior Gillian Grimes was named Big Ten Libero of the Year after leading her team with 3.68 digs per set (1,615 career digs) and starting 94 consecutive matches, a performance that helped bring Penn State back to the NCAA Tournament and earned her a spot on the All-Big Ten First Team plus a second-round pick by San Diego Mojo.  Onward State
  • Penn State closed its homestand with an 87 to 76 win over Campbell at the Bryce Jordan Center and improved its record to 8 to 1—coach Mike Rhoades praised guard Kayden Mingo for his strong defense. The team will face No 22 Indiana next Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. on FS1.  StateCollege.com
  • Kilani Sitake remains head coach at BYU instead of joining Penn State, which reportedly offered him a multi-year deal exceeding $11 million annually—this decision shifts focus to Penn State's ongoing coaching search and the potential full-time role for interim coach Terry Smith.  StateCollege.com
  • Grey Burnett announced his commitment to Penn State Wrestling on Tuesday night as the top recruit from Perrysburg High School who won the UWW U17 Trials at 125 lbs. He is the fifth Class of 2027 wrestler and visited campus over the weekend after an opening dual win against Oklahoma—he may move to 133 lbs when he starts college.  Onward State
  • Rothrock by UTMB will debut in Centre County this spring as an international trail running event, with a 50K race on May 16 and a 25K race on May 17 in Rothrock State Forest—starting and finishing at Tussey Mountain. Organizers expect about 1,100 runners, and UTMB will donate proceeds from the first three years to support local trail improvements.  StateCollege.com
  • Three Penn State women’s soccer players—Kaitlyn MacBean, Bella Ayscue, and Amelia White—were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region Team today. MacBean scored ten goals while Ayscue and White added their season accomplishments with strong play.  Onward State
