CULTURE NEWS

  • American rapper DaBaby will perform at 8 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026 at the Bryce Jordan Center. Tickets are available today at 10 a.m.—purchases are limited to eight per order.  Onward State

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Penn State announced the 2026 Land Grant Startup Launch Competition — a collaboration between Smeal College of Business and the College of Agricultural Sciences that supports early-stage startups in sustainable food and agriculture. The competition offers a $50,000 investment and accepts applications from December 1 until February 1.  Penn State
  • Bailey Allison, an advertising and public relations major, will serve as student marshal for fall commencement at the Bryce Jordan Center on Dec. 21 and will soon begin a job as a sales associate with a company that sells steel—her varied college experiences prepared her for the role.  Penn State
  • State College Area High School assistant principal Danielle Ambrosia was named the Pennsylvania Assistant Principal of the Year for 2026 by the Pennsylvania Principals Association—she is also a candidate for the National Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year.  StateCollege.com
  • Delany Moreno, a fourth-year Penn State criminology student from Allentown, uses her first-generation experience and Ecuadorian heritage to lead legal advocacy for underserved communities. She holds multiple campus leadership roles, completed internships that deepened her commitment to immigration law, and will graduate in spring 2026 — planning to take the LSAT and work as a paralegal.  Penn State
  • Penn State graduate Jonathan Wolf has donated a landmark gift to boost support for students studying addiction and recovery by funding scholarships, better classes, and internships—this donation will help the College of Education build a strong pipeline of future behavioral health experts. The gift builds on Wolf’s long career in mental health and will give students the chance to learn practical skills in the field.  Penn State

HEALTH NEWS

  • Researchers at Penn State have developed a new treatment for bladder cancer that uses bacteria-derived microbial product cocktails optimized by AI to boost the immune system, with tests on patient tumor samples and mice showing improved survival rates — the study published today in Nature Communications suggests the approach may soon be expanded to treat other cancers in the future.  Penn State

  • On day 50 of the Penn State coaching search, athletic director Pat Kraft has not confirmed any meetings with BYU coach Kalani Sitake—rumors of a trip to Provo remain unverified while his strong record at BYU sparks talk about his potential candidacy. No official news has been shared from Kraft’s office as the search continues.  StateCollege.com
  • Penn State clinched bowl eligibility today with a 40-36 win over Rutgers at SHI Stadium as a late defensive score decided the game — running backs Allen and Singleton broke school records while quarterback Grunkemeyer strengthened his case as a future starter.  Onward State
  • Penn State running back Kaytron Allen was named Big Ten Offensive Player Of The Week for the third time after he ended his final regular season with games that saw him earn 341 yards and four touchdowns on 50 carries against Michigan State and Nebraska. He is now the program’s all-time leading rusher and his draft stock is rising as he prepares for the bowl game—adding to his record-seeking potential.  Onward State
  • Three-star linebacker Mathieu Lamah flipped his commitment from Penn State to Virginia Tech today—he is the second former recruit to join the Hokies under coach James Franklin and the sixth flip overall.  Onward State
  • Former Penn State football quarterback commit Troy Huhn left Penn State after coach James Franklin was fired and committed to Virginia Tech in Blacksburg—he was the only quarterback in his class and was ranked No. 309 by 247Sports.  Onward State
