COMMUNITY NEWS

  • State College has a busy week of holiday events for families and students, starting today (Dec. 1) with holiday movies at The State Theatre and a mental reset workshop at the HUB-Robeson Center from 6 to 7 p.m. The week will also include Neil deGrasse Tyson’s film talk, a Penn State basketball game and free concert Tuesday, a downtown celebration Friday, and a winter craft market Saturday with a low entry fee.  Daily Collegian

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Teresa’s Treasures at 126 W. High St. in Bellefonte reopened two months ago as a knife store and has grown to sell historic knives, swords, hunting gear, video games, books and formal dresses—owner Teresa Engle uses items from her father's collection to help keep Centre County history alive while finding rare pieces for customers.  StateCollege.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A recent article explained key factors for State College students when finding off-campus housing, noting that careful budget planning, lease term evaluation, and transportation needs are key to making a good choice. The guide urged students to compare shared leases and parking fees—advice designed to help them avoid rushed decisions.  Daily Collegian

SPORTS NEWS

  • Penn State women's volleyball earned a No. 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament and will face USF on Friday, December 5 in Austin, Texas. The reigning national champions are set to try repeating their title for the first time since 2013-14 as they advance, and all games will air on ESPN.  Onward State
  • Penn State ended its regular season on Saturday with a 40-36 win over Rutgers as Nick Singleton became the school’s all-time touchdown leader and Andrew Rappleyea secured a critical first down on fourth-and-two—making the Nittany Lions bowl-eligible while Amare Campbell’s 61-yard fumble return added to the win. Photographers captured the action as the team fought through chilly New Jersey weather.  Onward State
  • Penn State's redshirt sophomore tight end Andrew Rappleyea scored his second career touchdown on a 53‐yard catch at Rutgers on Nov. 29—he finished with four catches for 75 yards and made a key fourth‐down play to seal the 40‐36 win.  StateCollege.com
  • Penn State’s Lady Lions beat Yale 82-64 on Thanksgiving weekend as they forced 24 turnovers and recorded 15 steals—securing their sixth win of the season. The team will face Nebraska for their first Big Ten matchup on Saturday, December 6 at the Bryce Jordan Center.  Onward State
  • During fall break, Penn State saw major events when two students were charged with felony counts for fake media passes and the football team recorded its first win at Beaver Stadium since September 13—while Kaytron Allen broke the rushing record and the men’s hockey team scheduled its season opener with the Ice Breaker Tournament on October 9 and 10. Additional wins in wrestling and volleyball added to a busy period in campus sports.  Onward State
