COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Four Alpha Fire Company firefighters from Penn State were honored at a Centre Region Council of Governments meeting on Monday for rescuing a colleague injured during the Woodward Inn blaze in October. The fire battle in Haines Township has been noted for the team's bravery and professionalism as they helped their injured co-worker after a 10-foot fall during the fire attack.  StateCollege.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Nittany Ballet will perform its updated version of The Nutcracker at Eisenhower Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Dec. 13 and 2 p.m. on Dec. 14 — the show features fresh costumes, new choreography, and guest artists from Pacific Northwest Ballet along with Penn State theater students. More than 100 dance students aged 3 to 18 will join the holiday event as it continues the annual tradition.  StateCollege.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Members of the Penn State Model Railroad Club build detailed miniature train layouts and gain career skills in fields like electrical engineering and design. The club meets twice weekly and will hold its open house on Dec. 6 and 7 at Research Unit A — admission is free for students and the public.  StateCollege.com
  • The Penn State School of Music will hold its annual Mosaic concert at 4 p.m. on Dec. 7 at Eisenhower Auditorium where students will perform seasonal songs with special lighting effects enhancing the show. Ticket prices are $37 for adults and $14 for students if purchased online+ buyers can avoid a $4 fee by purchasing over the phone or in person while part of the proceeds will support student scholarships.  StateCollege.com

  • Right-side hitter Kennedy Martin broke Penn State's single-season points record on a match-winning play against Maryland and confirmed the record with her first kill against Nebraska—she reached 639.5 points in one day and is now a semifinalist for newer national honors.  Daily Collegian
  • The 1-0 Podcast co-hosts Avery Hill, Lexie Linderman and Will Horstman discussed Penn State’s chance for bowl eligibility—if a win over Rutgers leads to potential opt-outs—and plans to play the Scarlet Knights along with the head coach search during their post-Thanksgiving special.   • Irish specialist Adam McCann-Gibbs decommitted from Penn State and committed to UNC after positive discussions—he announced his decision on November 28, leaving Penn State without any 2026 specialists.  Daily Collegian
  • No. 4 Penn State women’s hockey lost 3-2 to No. 7 Northeastern at Matthews Arena on Friday—its first loss of the season. The teams will meet at Dorothy Talbot Skating Rink at 2 p.m. on Saturday.  Daily Collegian
  • On Friday night, No. 25 Penn State women’s volleyball was swept 3-0 by No. 1 Nebraska at the Bob Devaney Sports Center, as the Cornhuskers won all three sets by double digits. Penn State will play Iowa at 7 p.m. today (televised on BTN) in its regular-season finale.  Onward State
  • Penn State is a 13.5-point favorite to beat Rutgers with betting odds showing a 35—21 victory that could secure bowl eligibility, and the game will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.  Daily Collegian
