COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ State College is hosting a busy Thanksgiving Break with many events planned—from a free drawing exhibit at the Stuckeman Family Building today to a Tuesday book club at Schlow Library with a Penn State basketball game, a Wednesday line dancing lesson at the Arena Bar and Grill, a Thanksgiving dinner and Turkey Trot on Thursday, an improv show and a second basketball game on Friday, and Small Business Saturday at the Corner Room on Saturday. - ➤ Local campus life flourished last week as residents enjoyed holiday lights, snowy days, spirited walks, and sports wins+ a holiday concert, all captured in a series of photos from November 17 to 23. - ➤ Ten former Penn State players took part in NFL’s My Cause, My Cleats initiative to help THON and Four Diamonds. All ten special cleats will be auctioned off to raise funds for these charities. Onward State
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The $50.1 billion state budget—signed by Gov. Shapiro—keeps funding for rural hospitals and boosts Medicaid as federal cuts loom. Advocates say more support is needed for rural care and state officials expect federal grant planning to begin in fiscal year 2026. StateCollege.com
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Mount Nittany Health donated $10K to the State College Food Bank as part of its annual Season of Giving and launched an employee food drive to collect nonperishable food and essential supplies to support local families – recent data show that food insecurity among children in Centre County rose from 5.7% in 2021 to 10.4% in 2022, highlighting the need for more help. - ➤ No. 24 Penn State women's volleyball swept Maryland on Sunday at Rec Hall in three sets on Senior Day. The Nittany Lions won 25-19, 25-15, 25-14 and will face No. 1 Nebraska on Friday at 6:30 p.m. on the Big Ten Network. Onward State
- ➤ Former Penn State football defensive end commit Elijah Littlejohn flipped his commitment to Georgia after leaving the team on Oct 16 following James Franklin's firing. He visited Vanderbilt on Oct 24 and got interest from Georgia Tech, Alabama, & Auburn. Onward State
- ➤ On Saturday night, Kaytron Allen broke Evan Royster's 15-year rushing record at Penn State with 25 carries for 160 yards and two touchdowns—making him the all-time rushing leader at Happy Valley. Onward State
- ➤ Penn State beat Nebraska 37-10 at Beaver Stadium; Andrew Rappleyea scored his first touchdown as Kaytron Allen set new records on the ground—quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer completed nearly all of his passes while coach Terry Smith led the team to its second win. Onward State
- ➤ Penn State is searching for a permanent head coach after terminating James Franklin, and many now back interim coach Terry Smith — who has led the team to strong improvements over five games and has deep local ties from Aliquippa. His work with recruiting and a refreshed game plan has united players and fans as the university plans its next big move. Onward State
- ➤ Penn State wrestling sent 20 wrestlers to West Point on Sunday to compete in the Black Knight Invitational where they won all 10 weight classes with a team score of 197 points—then the team will face Drexel on December 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Philadelphia. Onward State
