  • 7 Brew, a drive-thru-only coffee chain, will hold a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. on Dec.2 at its new 540-square-foot store at 1923 S. Atherton St. in College Township as it partners with THON to support pediatric cancer research—additional promotions include a Swag Day on Dec.6 and a Caffeine for a Cause weekend.  StateCollege.com
  • Honeygrow, a fast-casual chain founded by Penn State alum Justin Rosenberg, will open its downtown location Monday at 10 a.m. at 160 E. Beaver Ave. — the grand opening will include a ribbon cutting, a prize wheel with giveaways, and free T-shirts, and the restaurant will serve customizable stir-fries, salads, and honeybars daily from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.  StateCollege.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Diane Akpovwa, a Penn State fourth-year student in human-centered design, introduced Centre Film Festival's first virtual reality film experience at the Palmer Museum on Nov. 13—she set up six VR films from around the world that gave viewers a new way to watch movies and join group talks.  Penn State

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Penn State’s Excellence in Academic Leadership program is accepting applications for its Spring 2026 cohort, giving experienced academic unit heads a chance to expand leadership skills and improve their departments. The program will begin in January with interactive sessions on two Friday afternoons each month — applications will be accepted from Nov. 12 to Dec. 5 and selected participants will be notified on Dec. 12.  Penn State
  • Undergraduate researchers at Penn State are gaining key skills by working on projects that design climate-resistant corn and develop materials to improve energy production, giving them hands-on experience in hundreds of research teams.   • A loud boom and shaking floors forced students and teachers to leave the Susan Welch Liberal Arts Building on Wednesday afternoon after a one-inch crack was found in an interior wall. Firefighters reported that someone got stuck when a door jammed but was not hurt—officials say the building will remain closed until it is safe.  Daily Collegian
  • A team of Penn State researchers was awarded a $3M NSF grant to create a five-year graduate training program in sustainable materials processing—integrating data science with new manufacturing methods that support environmental resilience. The program will offer a graduate certificate, digital badges and internships while initially training 50 students through cross-college courses.  Penn State
  • Paul Babitzke was named the Don Bryant Chair in Microbial Physiology in Penn State’s Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology to honor his work on RNA regulation and gene transcription. The endowed chair—established through Bryant’s estate—supports advanced studies in microbial physiology and celebrates his legacy.  Penn State
  • Boaz Dvir, associate professor at the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications, became the first recipient of the Nicholas P. Jones Faculty Award—an honor recognizing his integrity, leadership, and academic excellence among Penn State faculty with at least five years of service. The $1,000 award supports his work and marks a significant milestone in acknowledging dedicated educators.  Penn State

  • Navy SEAL Michael P. Murphy’s legacy lives on as his father said his brave actions inspire honoring fallen heroes and supporting a museum, scholarships & monuments that tell his story. His Medal of Honor, awarded for heroic actions in Afghanistan, continues to remind many of the cost of service.  Penn State

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Penn State study published yesterday found that adults over 50 living in 15 counties with or near farmland had a 57% higher chance of developing melanoma — the deadliest type of skin cancer. The research showed that every 10% increase in cultivated land and herbicide use was linked to a 14% and 13% rise in cases respectively, pointing to a connection between farming practices and community health.  Penn State

  • Penn State football travels to East Lansing today to face Michigan State for the Land-Grant Trophy with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff—Penn State is seven-point favorites and fans can watch on CBS while tuning in to local radio on 99.5 FM, 103.7 FM and 1450 AM.  Onward State
  • No. 1 Penn State wrestling dominated No. 22 Oklahoma at the Bryce Jordan Center with a win by a score of 45 to 0 that featured strong tech falls and pins by several wrestlers — the Nittany Lions will travel to West Point for the Black Knight Invitational at 10 a.m. on November 23.  Onward State
  • Penn State women’s hockey beat Syracuse 7-0 on Friday as the defense held the Orange to only 14 shots, easing early mistakes after their bye week. Coach Kampersal said their fast, hard working play (with 38 of 41 successful penalty kills this season) was key to the win.  Daily Collegian
