COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Mike 'The Mailman' Herr, who worked nearly 50 years at the post office, released his 76-page memoir 'Pushing The Envelope' with his daughter Marykate Herr Weeks in October—and he has since met fans at local book signings to share his cherished career stories. The book details his long service, community impact, and memorable moments at Penn State.  Onward State
  • The GIANT Company donated 250 turkeys to the State College Food Bank two weeks before Thanksgiving to help meet growing demand amid high food prices and SNAP benefit concerns. The donation is part of the company's larger plan to distribute nearly 20,000 turkeys to food banks across its communities.  WTAJ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Leaders from Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences co-hosted a session at the World Food Prize Borlaug Dialogue held from Oct. 19 to Oct. 25 in Des Moines, Iowa — focusing on regenerative agriculture and soil health to rebuild Ukraine’s agricultural sector after war damage.  Penn State
  • Penn State is hosting the annual Swipe Out Hunger drive for the fifth year, where students can donate $1, $5, $10 or $15 when paying for meals at residential dining halls or by mobile ordering from Nov. 16 to 22 to help fund the Student Emergency Fund. Donations may also continue through the fall semester — leftover dining dollars will be accepted until Dec. 19.  Penn State
  • Penn State graduate workers voted Thursday to unionize with a vote (1,882 for and 198 against) to form a union that will represent about 4,300 employees. The new union will prepare for bargaining to improve pay, workload, and job security as state lawmakers urged Penn State to respect the vote.  Daily Collegian

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new study led by Penn State’s Asher Rosinger found that children in food secure homes who drink tap water have fewer sugary beverages in their diet, while those facing water or food insecurity consume extra calories from sugary drinks + up to 1.8% more. The findings suggest that building trust in safe tap water may help lower children’s sugar intake.  Penn State

  • As Thanksgiving break nears, Penn State students are planning Friendsgiving gatherings with meal deals from local restaurants such as KFC, Aldi, Chick-fil-A, Cracker Barrel, Olive Garden, Hibachi Express, and Moe’s Southwest Grill in State College. The deals range in price and serve groups of different sizes—covering options from Southern comfort to Italian and Japanese cuisines.  Onward State

SPORTS NEWS

  • After Penn State won 80-71 over Navy on Tuesday, the men's basketball team improved to 3-0 as strong bench scoring and a deep rotation helped secure the win—coach Mike Rhoades mentioned that freshman Justin Houser may play more minutes while the team works on its paint defense. The Nittany Lions will look to win by a larger margin in upcoming games when Big Ten play begins.  Daily Collegian
  • No. 6 Penn State women’s hockey will host Syracuse in a two-game series at Pegula Ice Arena, with puck drop at 2 p.m. today and 1 p.m. Saturday. The Nittany Lions have led in offense and special teams—while Syracuse has struggled on power plays.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State women’s soccer signed three forwards, three midfielders, and one goalkeeper for the class of 2025 on National Signing Day, with recruits coming from different regions including Washington and Allentown. The team will begin its NCAA Tournament run tomorrow at Jeffrey Field against Army.  Onward State
  • No. 1 Penn State returns to the mat for the 2025-26 season and will host No. 18 Oklahoma today at 6 p.m. in the Bryce Jordan Center. The meet will feature key matchups with top wrestlers like Luke Lilledahl and Shayne Van Ness and will showcase new starters after many seniors graduated.  Daily Collegian
  • After a strong performance at the Big Ten championship, Penn State cross country will run in today's NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship in Bethlehem—women at noon and men at 1 p.m.—and both teams must finish in the top two to earn a bid for the NCAA championship.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State Athletics welcomed many high school athletes who signed on National Signing Day to join the team in sports such as baseball, basketball, hockey, and lacrosse—official updates continue as more commitments are recorded.  Daily Collegian
  • Braiden Weaver announced his commitment to Penn State wrestling via Instagram on Thursday. The Altoona native (who had previously committed to Buffalo) will begin his senior season on Dec. 2 and join the team next year.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State will face Michigan State on Saturday with the Land-Grant Trophy on the line as both teams, winless since September, tackle quarterback changes and coaching challenges. The rivalry—shown by Penn State leading the series 19 to 18—adds extra pressure as first-time head coaches prepare for critical Big Ten play.  Onward State
