EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Penn State’s Board of Trustees approved nearly 43 million for three capital projects at University Park — a 15 million microchip packaging cleanroom expansion at the Millennium Science Complex that begins later this month, an 11.37 million renovation of McKee Hall adding bed space and upgraded bathrooms with work starting in December, and a 16.4 million repurposing of the 331 Building for the Applied Research Lab with completion set for September. - ➤ A study by Penn State College of Education researchers found that small-group discussions helped 4th and 5th graders boost their critical thinking as they talked through their reading. The team used AI to quickly process nearly 400 conversations — a method that could unlock deeper insights from large sets of data in future projects. Penn State

- ➤ Penn State baseball received a commitment from JUCO product Jacob Kucharczyk from Kellogg Community College who played 54 games last season and hit .396. Kucharczyk said he is grateful for the opportunity—he will further his academic and athletic career at Penn State. Daily Collegian
- ➤ Penn State women's soccer goalkeeper Mackenzie Gress was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team after a strong tournament—she had a 0.697 save percentage with 106 saves, including eight saves against UCLA—while Penn State will begin its NCAA tournament run on Friday. Daily Collegian
- ➤ Penn State women's soccer has qualified for its 31st NCAA tournament appearance and will host Army West Point on November 15 at 5:00 p.m. at Jeffrey Field (the team is the No.8 seed and coach Erica Dambach is in her 19th season). - ➤ Penn State women’s soccer goalkeeper Mackenzie Gress was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team after making eight saves and allowing two goals against UCLA last week—she earned this honor even though the team did not win the match. The NCAA Tournament selection will be made today at 4 p.m., marking ten years since the team last won a National Championship. Onward State
- ➤ Maximus Muhlhauser, a Penn State second-year economics student, rides on the English equestrian team and participates in ROTC while planning his future military service. - ➤ On a cold Monday in State College, Penn State interim head coach Terry Smith met with reporters at Beaver Stadium to talk about the team's future and his own job, noting that some players are unsure if they will stay and that tight end Joey Schlaffer is leaving for transfer (the portal will open soon). He said the defense worked hard against Indiana and that quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer has improved his play (throwing more good passes) as new coaching choices will come after the season.
