EDUCATION NEWS

  • Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences has formed a Dean’s Leadership Council—composed of 17 experts in farming, research and government—to help shape the future of the college’s teaching, research and extension programs. The council members, who serve three-year terms, recently met on campus for their inaugural session.  Penn State
  • The Nittany Valley Writers Network will meet on Tuesday, November 11 at 6:00 p.m. in the Schlow Library Community Room at 211 S. Allen St. — at 6:30, novelist and retired environmental lawyer Joel Burcat will speak about balancing a career, shifting genres, and signing his latest book.  Downtown State College

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Penn State women’s cross country team earned its second First Team All-Big Ten honors after Florence Caron finished in the top 10 and Charlotte Costich finished eighth with a personal best — the team now prepares to run in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional on Nov. 14 to seek an automatic bid.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State basketball will host Navy in a Military Appreciation Game Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center — coach Mike Rhoades leads a young team with seven freshmen that began the season 2–0.  Daily Collegian
  • The No. 25 Penn State women's volleyball team defeated Illinois 3-1 in Champaign-Urbana on Sunday, ending a three-game winless streak with strong plays from Kennedy Martin, Maggie Mendelson, and Alexis Ewing. The team will play Minnesota at (8 p.m.) Friday.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State enters Saturday’s game against Michigan State as a 7.5-point favorite with the total at 48.5 points while both teams are 3-6. The Nittany Lions lost 27-24 to Indiana recently and Michigan State was off last week—each team will use the matchup to seek a turnaround.  PennLive
  • After a tough season that included a 38-14 loss at Ohio State, Penn State played hard in its 27-24 contest against No. 2 Indiana Saturday—showing that the team remains committed as it fights for a bowl game spot. Interim coach Terry Smith said the players will keep working hard as they prepare for upcoming games.  StateCollege.com
  • Penn State lost a one-score football game at Beaver Stadium on Saturday, falling (27-24) and dropping to a 3-6 record. The team will try to keep its bowl hopes alive (with three games remaining).  StateCollege.com
