CULTURE NEWS

  • The Latin American Graduate Student Association held its Día de Muertos celebration at Manny’s Live Performance Space on Oct. 30 to honor Mexican traditions and bring students together — the event featured traditional displays, lively music, and a community alter that remembered loved ones.  Daily Collegian
  • Art history professor Nancy Locke will discuss her book 'Cézanne's Shadows: Poussin, Chardin, Rubens'—which examines Cézanne’s ties to past masters—with Dean B.   • Penn State reported a record fall enrollment with just under 49,000 undergraduates at University Park, nearly 146,000 applications, and an overall enrollment of just under 87,000 students across its campuses.  ABC 23
  • Penn State's new director of the Center for Biodevices, Scott Medina, is broadening the center's work from making medical devices—where it focused on fighting disease—to now help farmers and protect nature—by using smart tools to check crops and the environment.  Penn State
  • Penn State will host First-Generation College Celebration Week on the University Park campus and at Penn State Berks from Nov. 3 to 7—offering events like HUB Takeover, First-Gen Community Night and a Tri-Alpha induction ceremony to honor the work of first-generation students, faculty, staff and alumni.  Penn State
  • Penn State reported a record number of undergraduate students at University Park this fall, including its third-largest freshman class and a record amount of new applications, showing strong demand for a Penn State education. SPORTS NEWS

  • Penn State women's hockey won 3-0 over Robert Morris on Friday at Clearview Arena, keeping the team undefeated in conference play. Outwater, Roberts, and Keller scored while goalie DeSa earned a shutout — the team will face Robert Morris again today at 1 p.m.  Onward State
  • No. 6 Penn State secured a 4-0 shutout win over Robert Morris with two goals in the second period—and a strong penalty kill that gave them their sixth shutout this season—and they will return to Clearview Arena for game two at 5 p.m. today.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State men's hockey swept No. 17 Ohio State with a 4-3 win, improving to a 9-1 conference record. The team will travel to East Lansing next weekend — while forward Aiden Fink remains sidelined with a wrist injury.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State women's basketball player Gracie Merkle has been named to the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Preseason Top 20 watch list by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame — she averaged 15.5 points and 8.6 rebounds in her sophomore season.   • The 1-0 Podcast co-hosts Avery Hill and Will Horstman discussed Penn State’s chance to beat the No. 1 Buckeyes ahead of today's game against Ohio State.
