CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Arboretum hosted this year’s Pumpkin Festival last weekend with live music, food trucks, fall crafts and a new 21+ pumpkin patch that drew families to activities such as pumpkin carving contests—puppet shows and performances also added to the fun. The event transformed the arboretum into a festive fall setting with cozy lights and carved pumpkins for all to enjoy. Onward State
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Penn State Student Programming Association will host internet personality Caleb Hearon for a free lecture at 7:30 p.m. on October 23 at Heritage Hall in the HUB, and attendees must RSVP. Hearon was named this year’s No. 6 Most Influential Creator by Rolling Stone—he recently had his comedy special premiere on HBO. Onward State
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ State Rep. Paul Takac hosted a community health clinic in Howard that provided affordable vaccines for both people and pets in collaboration with Centre County PAWS, the Penn State Lion Mobile Clinic, the School of Nursing, and the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences—offering flu shots for people along with rabies, distemper, and kennel cough shots for pets. He said the event helped local residents get needed services and he is considering future clinics to expand access. WTAJ

- ➤ After a 25–24 loss to Iowa Saturday at Kinnick Stadium—Penn State interim coach Terry Smith said the team struggled on key plays and now faces a four-game losing streak as it plans improvements during the bye week. StateCollege.com
- ➤ Three Penn State men’s hockey players—Matt DiMarsico, Charlie Cerrato, and JJ Wiebusch—helped the team start 5-1 with 17 goals and 38 points in six games, and they set record-breaking marks that impressed coach Gadowsky. Onward State
- ➤ On Sunday afternoon, Penn State women’s basketball started its season with an exhibition win over California University by 114-52, holding the Vulcans to only 24 points in the first half. - ➤ Penn State played an exhibition game on Sunday against Dayton to raise funds for mental health support, and Dayton won 78-62. Coach Mike Rhoades tested a new rotation that featured freshman Kayden Mingo and redshirt sophomore Eli Rice with fresh contributions from the bench. Daily Collegian
- ➤ Penn State women’s soccer lost to Indiana 2-1 on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Bill Armstrong Stadium—Indiana took the lead in the second half while Penn State scored a late goal amid several chances. The Nittany Lions will play their final regular season game against Ohio State at Jeffrey Field on Sunday, October 26 at 1 p.m. Onward State
- ➤ Penn State lost to Indiana 3-1 on Sunday—ending its 6-0 home record as the Hoosiers scored twice in the second half after a strong start. The loss drops the Nittany Lions to 6-8 and they will face road games against Lock Haven and Princeton this week. Daily Collegian
- ➤ No. 17 Penn State women’s volleyball beat Oregon 3-1 at Matthew Knight Arena on Sunday night with Kennedy Martin scoring 26 kills. The Nittany Lions will host Rutgers for the annual Dig Pink Match at 7 p.m. Friday, October 24. Onward State
- ➤ On Saturday night, Penn State and Long Island played a rough hockey game at Pegula Ice Arena and traded hard hits and penalties as tempers flared.
