CULTURE NEWS

  • Disney’s Moana Live-to-Film Concert took place Tuesday, October 14 at the Eisenhower Auditorium with a full-length film screening + live music performances by leading Hollywood studio musicians, and a free pre-show family arts engagement from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. The event featured songs like 'How Far I’ll Go' and 'You’re Welcome' with English captions provided for the screening.  Downtown State College
  • The Centre Film Festival announced its 2025 lineup Monday at The State Theatre and will run Nov. 10-16 at several venues in Centre County. It will feature 90 Pennsylvania premieres and a new VR program (led by Penn State senior Diane Akpovwa) that brings six immersive films from around the world.  StateCollege.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Historian and author Laura F. Edwards will deliver three free lectures on U.S. legal history between Oct. 23 and Oct. 25 in University Park. The lectures are set at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 23 and Oct. 24 in Robb Hall at the Hintz Alumni Family Center and at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 25 at Foster Auditorium at 102 Paterno Library—focusing on the era between the American Revolution and the Civil War.  Penn State
  • Penn State alumni shared career advice with students in a virtual sustainability webinar held on Sept. 22, where they discussed how early campus work can lead to future sustainability roles. The next session will take place on Oct. 22 from 7 to 8 p.m.—co-presented by The LABOR School, it will focus on linking worker rights with community organizing.  Penn State
  • Today at 9:30 a.m., the library hosts Baby & Me Lapsit, Session 2 in the Children's Activity Room for infants and toddlers aged newborn to 14 months with a cap of 20 participants – the series continues on October 22, October 29, and November 5, and advance registration for the full series began Tuesday, October 7 at 9:00 a.m.  Downtown State College
  • On Oct. 14, Penn State honored 17 staff members in its 'We Are!' feature for going above and beyond in their roles—recognizing contributions in areas from instructional design to campus support. The recognitions celebrated outstanding work that helped keep the University running smoothly.  Penn State

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A coalition of local groups formed the State College Air Service Alliance to work together and expand airline service at the airport, aiming to support job growth and tourism in our community. The group set a goal of $500,000 for the Fly State College Fund—with $130,000 already committed—to boost local travel options.  StateCollege.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • Matt Rhule, who played at State College Area High School and walked on at Penn State, is the betting favorite for the head coach job because his local ties and past record at Nebraska add weight, despite his teams struggling against ranked opponents—if hired, he will need to prove he can win the big games.  Onward State
  • Penn State men's hockey forward JJ Wiebusch earned Big Ten First Star of the week after scoring five goals against Clarkson—he became the first player in program history to score four goals in one game. The team will face Long Island at Pegula Ice Arena at 7:30 p.m. Friday—giving fans another chance to see his record-setting play.  Onward State
  • James Franklin spent 12 years as Penn State coach, working hard to care for his players and win a Big Ten title while facing many tough losses in big games. His last press conference showed he was upset when fans booed him — leaving a mixed legacy of strong care and unmet expectations.  Daily Collegian
  • Kennedy Martin of Penn State’s women’s volleyball was named the AVCA Division I Player of the Week after strong play against Wisconsin and Northwestern — she now leads the conference and ranks high nationally in points and kills. The junior from Florida will play in conference matches on October 17 and October 18.  Onward State
  • Penn State named longtime cornerbacks coach Terry Smith interim head coach after parting ways with James Franklin at a press conference on Monday. Players say his focus on steady leadership and bringing swag back is already lifting team spirit—helping prepare them for Saturday’s game.  StateCollege.com
