- ➤ Penn State College of Education Dean Kimberly Lawless is stepping down to return to the faculty on Oct 15 — an interim dean will be named soon and a national search for a permanent replacement will begin later in the fall. Lawless led the college since 2019 and now will focus on new uses of artificial intelligence in education. Daily Collegian
- ➤ Penn State's new filmmaker Gustavo Rosa has had his films picked for six festivals this year—his work will show in Austin on Oct 26 and in Poland in November. He joined the school this fall from Boston University and plans to help students with his filmmaking ideas. Penn State
- ➤ Penn State School of Music will dedicate its new Steinway Spirio B piano on a weekend of events Oct. 24-25, funded by the Guarriello family and featuring renowned pianist Greg Anderson. Anderson will lead masterclasses and give a free recital at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 25 — the celebration runs alongside the Marian Garcia Piano Competition. Penn State
- ➤ The Indigenous Peoples' Student Association and the Indigenous Faculty and Staff Alliance at Penn State are organizing a series of events for Indigenous Peoples Day on Oct. 13 that include a Resistance Day Rally, a hip-hop workshop and a Joyfull Feast featuring Onondaga Storyteller Perry Ground and Cree artist Angela Gladue—these events are open to everyone. - ➤ The Stuckeman School at Penn State will host award-winning architect Virginia San Fratello for a lecture titled 'Drawn Out of The Lab and Into the Landscape' on Oct. 15 at 4 p.m.—the event will take place in the Stuckeman Family Building Jury Space and be streamed on Zoom. Penn State
- ➤ Wenrui Hao, a professor of mathematics, has been named the new director of the Center for Mathematical Biology at University Park and will host a kick-off meeting on Oct. 16 at noon—where researchers will explore new work in mathematical modeling, AI, and computational tools. - ➤ Transportation Services announced that Penn State’s Homecoming Parade will wind through University Park and downtown beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10 while roads are closed from 5:30 p.m. until the parade ends. Attendees should note that parking restrictions and adjusted bus and shuttle routes will affect access—drivers and riders are advised to plan alternative routes. Penn State

- ➤ Penn State College of Medicine received a $3.3M NIH grant for two years to set up a national hub for coordinating data sharing and research to prevent chronic conditions—Vernon Chinchilli and Jennifer Kraschnewski will lead projects that test interventions to lower health gaps. Penn State

- ➤ The Penn State men's hockey team moved up to No.4 in the USCHO poll—its highest ranking in over eight years—and remains the second-best team in the Big Ten. The team started the season with wins over Arizona State and will play a two-game home series against Clarkson starting October 9 at 6:30 p.m. Onward State
- ➤ Penn State head coach James Franklin addressed criticisms at Beaver Stadium after a 42-37 loss to UCLA, saying the team struggled with running back use and linebacker play with Dom DeLuca not meeting expectations.
