CULTURE NEWS

  • A free pajama concert for kids featuring the Penn State Music Service Club will take place on October 8 from 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm in the Downtown State College Improvement District — registration is suggested as the library website does not send confirmation emails and reminder emails will be sent a few days before the event.  Downtown State College

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dean Kimberly Lawless will step down on October 15 to return to classroom teaching at Penn State after six years of leading the College of Education—she introduced several new programs that boosted enrollment and credit hours. An interim dean has not been named and the search for a permanent replacement will begin later this semester as she prepares to study how artificial intelligence can affect teaching.  Onward State

SPORTS NEWS

  • No. 6 Penn State women's hockey beat Vermont by a score of 3 to 1 at Gutterson Fieldhouse as key goals were scored in the first and second periods; the team will play again tomorrow at 2 p.m. to continue their strong start to the season.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State lost 42-37 to UCLA on Oct.4 and dropped from the AP Top 25 after a long 53-poll streak—receiving only 97 votes. The team will face Northwestern in a 3:30 p.m. homecoming game at Beaver Stadium on Saturday.  StateCollege.com
  • No. 16 Penn State women's volleyball bounced back from a Friday loss - defeating Maryland 3-2 in a five-set road match and extending its win streak over Maryland to 33 matches. The team will host Wisconsin this Friday, October 10, at Rec Hall in its upcoming White Out match.  Onward State
  • Penn State fell out of the AP Top 25 after a 42-37 loss to UCLA at the Rose Bowl in California on October 4—dropping from a No. 7 ranking, the team will face Ohio State on November 1 as they hope to return to playoff contention.  WTAJ
  • Penn State women's volleyball bounced back against Maryland at Rec Hall today by rallying from an early deficit with Kennedy Martin leading the team to a tight fifth set win. The Nittany Lions will host Wisconsin at 7 p.m. Friday at Rec Hall.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State Men's Soccer won a 7 to 1 match against King's College on Sunday afternoon at Jeffrey Field during Senior Day. Ben Madore scored a hat trick and Danielson added two goals to lead the win — the team will face UCLA on October 10 at 10 p.m.  Onward State
  • At the Rose Bowl on Saturday, Penn State lost to UCLA 42 to 37 even though they were heavy favorites with more than a 24-point edge, and snap counts show head coach James Franklin rotated players heavily—quarterback Drew Allar played every snap while new players took the field to slow UCLA’s offense.  StateCollege.com
