  • The Downtown State College Improvement District hosted its 24th annual Fall Fest on Saturday, Oct. 4 on the 200 block of South Allen Street, drawing hundreds of residents to enjoy games, pumpkin decorating, face painting, and food from local vendors — supported by local partners like the Centre County Youth Service Bureau and county boards.  StateCollege.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Toddler Learning Centre session at 9:15 a.m. on October 6 in the Downsbrough Community Room will bring 15 families with children ages 18 to 36 months together for play, expert learning from a Strawberry Fields specialist, clean-up practice, a snack of Cheerios and water, and a short storytime—registration for the fall session begins on September 2 at 9 a.m.  Downtown State College

  • LaVar Arrington, a former Penn State linebacker, spoke at an event in downtown Champs during Venmo’s Town Hall takeover where he discussed the role of NIL deals and the importance of upholding the school’s academic traditions. He said he supports his son’s journey with the team—emphasizing the strong legacy and values of Penn State football.  Onward State
  • No. 7 Penn State football lost to UCLA 42–37 at the Rose Bowl on Saturday—Nico Iamaleava ran for 294 yards and scored five touchdowns while Penn State had trouble on both offense and defense.  Onward State
  • No. 5 Penn State men’s hockey rallied from a third period deficit to win 4-2 against No. 14 Arizona State at Mullet Arena as freshman Gavin McKenna scored his first collegiate goal on the power play at 18:07, sealing a series sweep for the Nittany Lions.  Onward State
  • Sixteen Penn State football players will be inactive for today's game against UCLA at the Rose Bowl. The injury list is headlined by linebacker Tony Rojas—who suffered a long-term injury during practice this week—and includes wide receivers, a quarterback, and both defensive and offensive linemen.  Onward State
  • No. 7 Penn State lost 42-37 to UCLA at the Rose Bowl, ending a 34-game win streak against unranked teams — the first time since 1985 that a top-10 team lost to a winless opponent. Players said they will tune out outside noise and stick together as they prepare for their next game.  Onward State
  • After losing 30-24 to Oregon, coach James Franklin warned the team not to let one loss become two. The Nittany Lions then fell 42-37 to UCLA Saturday—showing weak defense as they work to regroup before their upcoming game against Northwestern.  Onward State
