- ➤ The 24th annual Downtown Fall Festival will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on South Allen Street and will feature food, balloon animals, face painting, pony rides & magic shows, with free pumpkins at Martin’s Garden Center and free parking validations at local garages along with extra on-street parking. - ➤ The Penn State Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Gerardo Edelstein, will perform Weber’s Overture to Der Freischütz, MacDowell’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with soloist Yujan Huang and Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 on Sunday, Oct. 5, at 4 p.m. in Eisenhower Auditorium. Penn State

- ➤ Twenty banners honoring Penn State veterans and active-duty service members will be displayed on light poles along College Avenue at Penn State University Park during November. The college invites individuals and academic units to nominate a veteran for a banner by Oct. 15 for a $400 sponsorship that helps military student programs + sponsors will have their banners shipped back after Centre County Military Appreciation Month ends on Nov. 30. - ➤ Penn State educators Gilberto Q. Conchas and doctoral candidate Victor DeAlba co-edited a new book that shows how family, school and community supports help Latina/o/x students overcome challenges like resource cuts and anti-immigrant policies — it uses the symbol of maíz to highlight cultural strength. The volume calls on school leaders and policymakers to invest in these supports to build lasting equity in education. Penn State
- ➤ WPSU senior producer Kristian Berg was inducted into the Silver Circle Society by the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences at a gala in Philadelphia on Sept. 20—recognizing his 36 years in public media. Penn State

- ➤ CATA announced on Thursday that it partnered with UGI Energy Services to fuel its 60 buses + 6 service vehicles with renewable natural gas that will cut carbon emissions by about 3,089 tons each year and remove the equivalent of 670 gas cars from the road. StateCollege.com

- ➤ On Thursday, thousands joined the Central PA Heart Walk in State College to support heart disease awareness and learn CPR despite rainy weather, an event organized by the American Heart Association. A local family shared a story of a teenage athlete's cardiac arrest that showed the need for lifesaving skills—an effort that the association will keep growing. WTAJ
- ➤ Walmart is recalling the Marketside linguine with beef meatballs and marinara sauce after tests found Listeria—consumers should check their fridges for 12-oz clear plastic trays marked with best if used dates between Sept 22 and Oct 1 and return or discard any found. WTAJ
