- ➤ Officials opened Whitehall Road Regional Park on Wednesday, unveiling an all-abilities playground and restroom for children with multiple needs in Centre County. They plan to add more features such as a potential pool in the future + the park spans 100 acres of green space, athletic fields, and trails for community use. WTAJ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Penn State grad Arthur Pasquarella and his wife, Gail, donated $1 million in July to create a real estate professorship at Smeal College of Business—boosting the school’s research and teaching efforts. Dr. Jiro Yoshida was named the first holder of the position and will help students learn more about real estate. Penn State
- ➤ A new Employee Resource Group called Pawsitively Different has launched at Penn State to support employees with disabilities and their allies—its hybrid launch event will take place at noon on Oct 2 in the W043 Dewey Room at Pattee Library. All employees across campuses are invited to join and help shape future support initiatives. Penn State
- ➤ Penn State Environmental Health and Safety released a new Building Emergency Evacuation Plan training video — it was developed with CommAgency to help faculty, staff and students learn how to exit buildings safely during an emergency. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ County officials opened the Community Services Building yesterday at 502 E. Howard St. in Bellefonte—marking a $30 million renovation of the former Centre Crest nursing home now used by several county agencies, including Children and Youth Services and Elections. Leaders said the upgraded facility will provide more coordinated and convenient service for Centre County residents. StateCollege.com

- ➤ Scientists at Penn State are studying how a 15-minute hand force test may reveal early signs of Parkinson’s disease.
