EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three Penn State student productions—Trout And Tradition, The Legacy of Joe Humphreys; Centre County Report in Turkey; and Turkish Food, Bringing Together Countries, Cultures and People—won first-place finishes at the 2025 College Student Production awards given by the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences during a ceremony held Saturday in Philadelphia.  Penn State
  • Researchers at Penn State developed an AI system that uses minimal new data with existing studies to create equations that predict defects in laser welding for parts like fuel cells—this tool produced ten equations in about one minute and will help optimize future manufacturing.  Penn State
  • The State College Interfraternity Council said on Monday that Acacia and Sigma Pi have joined the group with Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Chi, and Tau Kappa Epsilon to work outside university oversight. The council noted that Acacia was suspended on May 7 and Sigma Pi since July 17 for hazing violations—both suspensions will last until 2029 while Penn State does not recognize the council.  Daily Collegian
  • The Stuckeman School at Penn State will host its annual Research Open House on Oct 2 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the Stuckeman Family Building to showcase design solutions by students and faculty addressing issues like climate change, housing crises and construction waste — the free event will include a poster session with later online displays on ScholarSphere.  Penn State
  • Penn State’s College of Engineering welcomed 12 new faculty members from April through August to support its academic and research excellence—these hires include tenure-line, professional track and administrative roles, as noted by Dean Tonya L. Peeples.  Penn State
  • Six Penn State students and alumni have been nominated for the prestigious Rhodes and Marshall scholarships — they will submit materials to national review committees with finalists set to interview in November.  Penn State
  • Penn State Global hosted nine members from the University of Auckland for a three-day workshop held from June 16—18, and the process to match future collaborators began in November 2024 during a joint virtual session. This event strengthened research ties between both institutions.  Penn State

SPORTS NEWS

  • Penn State will travel to Pasadena to face UCLA on Oct 4 at 3:30 p.m. on CBS—marking their second meeting since last season’s win. The contest will be the first game at the Rose Bowl—making it the team’s farthest road trip this season.  Onward State
  • Gerry DiCunzolo signed to join Penn State hockey for the coming season and will be part of the 2009-born recruiting class. The four-star forward played junior hockey in New York and earned 147 points in 62 games — a strong record that ranked him No. 33 among U.S. skaters.  Onward State
  • Penn State men’s hockey is ranked No. 5 in the USCHO preseason poll after receiving three first-place votes and finishing last season in the Frozen Four. The team will start the season on October 3 with a road series against No. 14 Arizona State—game one is set for 9:00 p.m. and game two for 7:00 p.m.  Onward State
  • Penn State men's lacrosse earned a commitment from 5-star Canadian midfielder Ayden Matthews on Monday — the highest-rated player on board. The left-handed junior from Lawrenceville High School joins as the No.5 recruit in the 2027 class.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State men’s hockey is ranked No. 5 in the preseason poll after an offseason that added transfers and new players such as Gavin McKenna. The team will open its season on Oct. 3 against No. 14 Arizona State—new additions are expected to boost their performance.  Daily Collegian
  • On Monday, Penn State head coach James Franklin met with the media at Beaver Stadium to preview the upcoming White Out against Oregon and explained that his team spent the bye week studying the Ducks’ varied offense. He challenged fans to stand and cheer through every play—calling for a strong, unified battle cry when the Nittany Lions face the No. 6 Ducks on Saturday night.  StateCollege.com
