CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Today, Penn State students host a free drop-in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month in downtown State College for children ages 3 and up, where kids enjoy games, arts and crafts, and traditional snacks — registration is suggested since the library website cannot send confirmation emails. The event runs from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Downtown State College
- ➤ Pop-punk band All Time Low will visit a local wine and liquor store Monday to sign bottles from their Everything Is Wine line. Customers can taste the wines from 4 to 6 p.m. and meet the band at Fine Wine and Good Spirits Premium Collection at 1536 N. Atherton St. from 6 to 8 p.m.—bottles must be bought that day to be signed. StateCollege.com
- ➤ The Happy Valley Latin Festival took place on Sept. 20 in downtown State College—this free celebration featured Latin music, food, poetry, and a traditional parade that honored Latin American culture. Mayor Ezra Nanes spoke on community unity and organizers said the event has grown into the flagship for Latin Vibe, a group set to support Hispanic culture all year. Daily Collegian
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Small transit agencies across Pennsylvania including LANTA and Centre Area Transit Authority said they will cut services, raise fares and freeze hiring as early as next January due to the lack of new state funds after Gov. Shapiro flexed money for Philadelphia’s SEPTA and Pittsburgh Regional Transit—LANTA may see a 20% service cut and a 25% fare hike. Centre Area Transit Authority said it will grow more slowly while waiting to discuss options with PennDOT. StateCollege.com

- ➤ ESPN's College GameDay is coming to State College next week for Penn State's White Out game against Oregon. The show will air live on Old Main Lawn from 9 a.m. to noon before the 7:30 p.m. game at Beaver Stadium. StateCollege.com
- ➤ More than 120 drivers take part in autocross races organized by the Sports Car Club of America’s Central PA Region, with competitions held on cone-lined courses at venues in Pleasant Gap and Philipsburg—events that test driving limits and build local camaraderie. President Jessica Black leads the group that will also host the family-friendly Witches Rallye on Nov. 1 to increase community participation. StateCollege.com
- ➤ Kennedy Martin led Penn State to a win over Princeton in a five-set match with 29 kills and strong support from her teammates. The junior hitter transferred to Penn State on May 7 and nearly recorded a double-double—she made nine digs and three blocks—to help secure the victory. Daily Collegian
