- ➤ Popular 2000s rock band All Time Low will perform at Fine Wine & Good Spirits in State College—located at 1536 N. Atherton Street—starting at 6 p.m. on Sept. 22. Fans aged 21 and older can sample wine beginning at 4 p.m. and purchase Real Nice Winemakers bottles for the band to sign. WTAJ
- ➤ Maker Faire Happy Valley debuts today at Axemann Brewery in Bellefonte — a free event featuring hands-on crafts and science activities for all ages. A free shuttle runs from noon to 4 p.m. from Axemann Brewery to downtown State College. StateCollege.com

- ➤ New computer simulations by researchers at Penn State and the University of Tennessee Knoxville show that mixing tiny neutrinos in colliding neutron stars changes the merger process and can boost the production of heavy metals like gold and platinum. The study may help scientists understand signals such as gravitational waves and X-rays from these extreme events. Penn State
- ➤ The National Science Foundation STAIR program at Penn State launched an undergraduate internship in research administration that will give five selected students hands-on experience over a 10‑week period this fall. The program explains how proposals are developed and offers meetings with experts—aiming to build the future workforce in research administration. Penn State
- ➤ Dominic DiFrancesco is a fourth-year Schreyer Scholar who studies singing and marketing at Penn State and leads music events on campus; he has sung abroad and is working on a thesis about AI (a mix of music and business) to blend his two passions. Penn State
- ➤ Ahead of National Hazing Prevention Week from Sept. 22 to Sept. 26, Penn State reminded all students that hazing is illegal—violations face full investigation and penalties such as expulsion. - ➤ Undergraduate students at Penn State can now declare a new minor in communication sciences and disorders via LionPATH – the program requires 18 credits with two mandatory courses and four electives aimed at careers in fields such as education, healthcare and social services. The minor builds essential skills to support individuals with speech, language and hearing differences, though it does not qualify for graduate study in speech-language pathology or audiology. - ➤ All voting members of Penn State's board attended a closed-door training on the Pennsylvania Sunshine Act last week at the 1855 Room of the Bryce Jordan Center to meet a legal settlement with Spotlight PA — new trustees will be offered the training starting next year. StateCollege.com
- ➤ Gov. Shapiro's administration announced a plan to close Rockview prison and Quehanna Boot Camp, starting immediately and taking at least four months to complete—nearly 900 staff will be moved to facilities within 67 miles with the same pay and job classification. Local officials say the move, aimed at saving costs and addressing high maintenance needs, will hurt the rural economies and force long commutes for many workers. StateCollege.com
- ➤ The Department of Corrections nearly finalized closing Rockview State Prison & Queahanna Boot Camp and promised that almost 900 staffers will be offered jobs in the system. Centre County Commissioners will soon discuss job training for the affected workers while Governor Shapiro is expected to approve the plan that will close the facilities within 90 days to save up to $100 million. - ➤ Researchers at Penn State found that hot air drying keeps many important nutrients in radish microgreens, including vitamins and antioxidants, nearly intact at different temperatures. - ➤ Researchers at Penn State have received a $3.6 million grant from the National Institute of Mental Health to study brain patterns in children with ADHD and severe anger—using computer games and parent surveys to track how medication alters responses to reward and frustration.
