- ➤ St. Mark Lutheran Church at 850 Snydertown Road in Howard will host its annual Free Book Fair and Costless Closet event on Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.—free books, media, puzzles, games, CDs, DVDs, and gently used clothes will be available and foods will be sold to raise funds for the church’s Social Action Committee. Attendees are encouraged to bring an unexpired food item or a monetary donation to support the St. Mark Food Pantry. StateCollege.com
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ State College residents have long waited for a Wawa, and the company confirmed on September 9 that several new stores will soon open here. The first locations will open in 2026—bringing 350 jobs and using over 140 local contractors. Onward State
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ On Sunday, No. 17 Penn State field hockey won 5-2 at home against Kent State by outshooting them 16-5 and improving to a 4-1 record, its best start since 2022. They will travel on Friday to play Maryland at 5 p.m. at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex. Onward State
- ➤ For the third-straight week, Penn State remains unchanged at No. 2 after a 52-6 win (Villanova) while Oregon dropped to No. 6 after Miami and Georgia passed it. Daily Collegian
- ➤ Penn State scored over 50 points for the first time this season in a 52-6 win over Villanova, but quarterback Drew Allar said the offense still needs more rhythm—especially on third downs. He said the team will work to build momentum during its bye week before facing Oregon on Sept. 27. Daily Collegian
- ➤ Former Penn State men's lacrosse captain Matt Traynor scored a hat trick on Sunday as he replaced injured teammate Xander Dickson—helping the New York Atlas clinch their first Premier Lacrosse League championship with a 14-13 win over the Denver Outlaws. Onward State
