- ➤ On Sept. 4, 2025, the community hosted the annual LION Bash where families, artists and Penn State students gathered for free activities and performances—local groups like the Centre Film Festival showcased new talent while strengthening community bonds. Daily Collegian
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ An electrical fire broke out Thursday night on High Street and East Calder Way between University Gateway and The Rise, causing brief outages in University Gateway, Cedar Lofts East and The Meridian and leaving 1,352 customers without power with repairs expected by Friday at 12:30 a.m.—West Penn is working on the repairs. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Gary Abdullah, the Bellisario College Assistant Dean, was named the 2025 Homecoming Honorary Grand Marshal and threw the first pitch at the State College Spikes Homecoming game—he will serve the role alongside Anthony Spice Adams while marking over two decades of service at Penn State. A lifelong State College native, Abdullah is recognized for his efforts to promote inclusion and has earned multiple awards for his work. Onward State
- ➤ The Center for Arts and Crafts at Penn State will offer non-credit art classes and workshops starting the week of Sept. 15 for session one and the week of Oct. 27 for session two (registration is in person at the Ritenour Building or the HUB-Robeson Center with a valid Penn State ID). - ➤ Today, Penn State will formally unveil the historic equipment that enabled Professor Erwin W. Müller to see an atom for the first time, with the instruments on display in his former Osmond Lab office and the lab lobby. Future home football game Fridays will offer guided tours — scheduled for Sept. 12, Sept. 26, Oct. 10, Nov. 7 and Nov. 21 — that let visitors explore both the original breakthrough tools and modern atomic imaging technology. - ➤ Penn State football will face Florida International at Beaver Stadium tomorrow in rainy conditions, and staff predict a blowout win as the team uses many backups in the second half. Multiple forecasts point to strong offensive plays and a dominant performance by the Nittany Lions. Onward State
- ➤ Several Penn State alumni are poised to make an impact in the NFL as staff picks name Tyler Warren for the Colts, KJ Winston for the Titans, KeAndre Lambert-Smith for the Chargers, Kobe King for the Vikings, and Abdul Carter for the Giants. The staff noted that Warren's ability to secure short passes may boost Indianapolis' offense and that Carter's edge-rushing talent is a key asset—signals that these rookies will shape their teams this season. - ➤ Real American Freestyle will hold its second professional wrestling event at Rec Hall on November 8 and will feature a championship match where Wyatt Hendrickson defends his title against Mason Parris. - ➤ Penn State wide receiver Kyron Hudson showed strong potential after joining the team and playing in the win against Nevada on Aug. 30—he caught six passes for 84 yards with a touchdown.
