CRIME NEWS
- ➤ State College police arrested David Park, 27, for racially and sexually motivated assaults on Penn State campus and on CATA buses that occurred between July 23 and August 27 — he now faces charges including aggravated assault and ethnic intimidation and his preliminary hearing is set for September 10 at 8:30 a.m. Onward State
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Penn State College of Education’s Center for Science and the Schools received a $5M NSF grant to boost elementary STEM education — the grant will support the STEM Pioneers Teacher Corps in training teachers and providing classroom materials across Pennsylvania, West Virginia and New Jersey. The project will help educators use real scientific practices to offer engaging lessons in classrooms. Penn State
- ➤ Penn State College of Information Sciences and Technology received a $1.5 million grant from the NSF to support the CyberCorps Scholarship for Service Program—this three-year pilot will train students in both cybersecurity and AI and offer full scholarships while requiring graduates to work in government cybersecurity roles. - ➤ The Penn State Applied Research Laboratory announced the Josiah Christophel Internship Program—named to honor a talented cybersecurity student—to give ARL students hands-on IT project experience. The program will annually choose one or two students with at least one year of ARL experience—starting with State College native Alexander Moore. Penn State

- ➤ Governor Shapiro said Pennsylvania will not join the national push to redraw congressional maps because a divided legislature makes it hard to agree on new plans. Critics worry that outside money may try to influence future state races. StateCollege.com
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Penn State Health Promotion and Wellness is hosting a series of fall wellness events for students—including yoga and meditation sessions, forest bathing walks and art programs—designed to boost student well-being. Events are held at various campus locations with some sessions scheduled from Sept. 9 through Oct. 29 and creative arts beginning Sept. 24. Penn State

- ➤ Penn State quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer redeemed himself on Saturday by leading a 94-yard drive capped by a 6-yard rushing touchdown during a season-opening win against Nevada—finishing 7-for-9 passing after a rough debut. Coach James Franklin said his increased comfort with the playbook in his second year makes him likely to see more playing time as he continues to prove his skills. StateCollege.com
- ➤ Penn State is planning a switch from Nike to Adidas pending board approval as the decision will be discussed at the meeting on Sept. 11–12. The school has used Nike since 1993 while other Big Ten schools now wear Adidas. Daily Collegian
