COMMUNITY NEWS

  • State College will host the annual THON 5K race on October 26 at 11 a.m.—participants can register for fees ranging from $15—$35 and must sign up before September 12 to get the THON shirt. Runner bibs and shirts will be picked up at the THON Store at the HUB from October 20 to 24 and food trucks will serve food at the event.  Onward State

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A female was pronounced dead after an ATV rollover crash at 443 Kato Road on Aug. 31, and Snow Shoe Fire Company spent 45 minutes trying to save her—police are investigating the incident.  WTAJ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Grammy-nominated drummer Kassa Overall will perform his CREAM Tour at Manny's Live Performance Space on Thursday, Sept. 4 as doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $10 for students and $22 for general admission—Overall will blend hip-hop and jazz in an intimate set.  StateCollege.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Penn State now offers an ASL minor at the Ford Building at University Park—an 18-credit program for all undergraduates that builds skills in ASL and Deaf culture while not preparing students to be interpreters. Students are expected to complete the minor in at least four semesters.  StateCollege.com
  • Andrew Patterson, Huck Chair in Molecular Toxicology, has been named associate director for shared and core facilities at the Huck Institutes. He will guide the shared labs by raising their visibility and expanding research access — a move that is expected to boost collaboration across Penn State.  Penn State

SPORTS NEWS

  • After an upset loss to Arizona State on Sunday that dropped Penn State women's volleyball to No. 5 in the AVCA Poll from a No. 2 preseason ranking, the Nittany Lions played against No. 24 TCU on Monday — they will host No. 4 Kentucky at 8 p.m. on Friday at Rec Hall.  Onward State
  • After Penn State's win over Nevada, coach James Franklin said many players earned valuable game time and praised punter Gabe Nwosu while stressing the team must fix red zone play before Saturday’s THON game against FIU — a challenge that will shape their next match.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State men's soccer lost 3-1 to Missouri State at Jeffrey Field on Monday afternoon—after taking an early lead from a goal by Malick Daouda—when Missouri State rallied in the second half with late goals. The Nittany Lions will face Mercyhurst at 7 p.m. on Friday at Jeffrey Field.  Onward State
  • On August 30, Penn State football featured new wide receivers as quarterback Drew Allar played the percentages; his passes by players—Hudson, Peña, Singleton, Reynolds, and Ross—created scoring opportunities in the game.  StateCollege.com
  • Yesterday, Penn State coach James Franklin answered media questions at Beaver Stadium about quarterback Drew Allar’s efficient play and backup Ethan Grunkemeyer’s strong showing. He said punter Gabe Nwosu will start in his new role — and he added that defensive end Zuriah Fisher is close to returning after missing practice.  StateCollege.com
