CULTURE NEWS

  • Billboards supporting Judaism have appeared around State College by nonprofit JewBelong to raise awareness about anti-Semitism on the Penn State campus. They will be up until November — serving as a visual reminder of the issue.  WTAJ
  • Lea Asbell-Swanger is retiring after 41 years of managing events at the Center for the Performing Arts in Happy Valley — she worked with campus groups and helped produce shows at major venues like Eisenhower Auditorium and Schwab Auditorium.  Penn State

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Penn State World Campus Online Faculty Development has launched a course — Personalizing Student Success With Intentional Design — that uses the INCLUSIVE ADDIE framework to help instructors add cultural elements to course design. It aims to guide faculty in creating welcoming learning environments for all students.  Penn State
  • Penn State’s CAPS Chat service gives students a one-time 30-minute counseling session in person or on Zoom during the academic year—designed to help with short-term issues like homesickness or test anxiety. The program may also guide students to longer-term mental health resources if needed.  Daily Collegian
  • Christina M. Grozinger, professor of entomology at Penn State, will deliver her talk 'Leveraging Technology to Conserve Pollinator Biodiversity' on Sept. 12 at noon in 401 Steidle Building — the lecture is part of the Department of Geography's Coffee Hour series and will be available via Zoom; she will explain how stressors like limited flowers, pesticides, disease and climate change impact pollinators and highlight new AI tools to aid bee health.  Penn State
  • Jeff King, a longtime volunteer and philanthropist, passed away on August 1 after a long illness. His generous contributions advanced real estate education at Penn State—supporting research, preservation, and community programs.  Penn State

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Centre Area Transportation Authority has partnered with the Centre County Transportation Office to offer subsidized rides for State College residents heading to court and government facilities in Bellefonte—riders from approved municipalities pay $5 each way and must schedule trips by calling 814-355-6807 one business day ahead of time.  StateCollege.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • Penn State will host its men's and women's hockey teams in a historic doubleheader at Beaver Stadium on Jan. 31—the men's team will play Michigan State and the women's team will host Robert Morris.  StateCollege.com
  • Penn State men’s hockey will host Michigan State on January 31, 2026 in Beaver Stadium in its first outdoor hockey game since a $750 million winterization renovation—officials say the game will test the new outdoor setup—while top prospects are set to spark fierce competition.  Onward State
