- ➤ Construction is underway for an 89-room TownePlace Suites by Marriott at the corner of Fox Hill and Bernel roads in Patton Township and it will open in the fourth quarter of 2026 near State College Regional Airport. The hotel will offer extended-stay suites with fully equipped kitchens and flexible workspaces — a new choice for business and leisure travelers. StateCollege.com
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing will host the 4th Annual Gunter-Gooding DEI Lecture Series on neurodiversity from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22 at the Flex Theater in the HUB-Robeson Center — the event is free to the public and will be live streamed via Zoom. Penn State
- ➤ Penn State Homecoming will unveil a new, modern overall logo on Aug. 26 during the State College Spikes game at 6:35 p.m.—the design honors its 105-year legacy and will be featured on giveaways and campus signage this fall. Penn State
- ➤ Michael Stedelin was promoted to assistant vice president for research strategic planning and solution development at Penn State on Aug. 15—he now leads efforts to integrate mission planning, systems, and IT solutions to support the university’s research goals. Penn State
- ➤ The Arthur W. Page Center released a report on prosocial communication that shows how organizations use clear messages to support public health and solve social challenges—presenting findings from 12 studies. Leaders are urged to adopt ethical strategies to build trust and care in communities. Penn State
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Department of Veterans Affairs announced that $800 million in funds will upgrade veteran care facilities in Central PA, including the outpatient clinic in State College. The improvements will update electronic health record systems and patient lifts to give veterans better care. WTAJ
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Penn State is doing a $700 million renovation at Beaver Stadium that will change seats, doors and tech ahead of the season opener against Nevada on Aug. 30; crews have added temporary bleachers on the West side, new escalators on the East side and updated student seating with colored wristbands to help ease crowding. The work will finish in 2027 (and a beer garden at Gate F will open three hours before kickoff). StateCollege.com
