CULTURE NEWS

  • Local artist and business owner Emily Cooper finished the 'Remember When' mural on the historic Dale Building in downtown State College, which recalls its past as a Clover Farm Store from the 1930s to 1960s — the project took three months to complete with weather delays and careful research.  StateCollege.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Social Science Research Institute's Child Maltreatment Solutions Network will host the in-person conference 'Innovative Pathways in Child Welfare Practice' at the Eric J Barron Innovation Hub on Oct. 3 while researchers, caseworkers and students share best practices in child safety and support. Organizers say the event aims to strengthen interdisciplinary efforts—bridging research and practice—to improve care for children.  Penn State
  • Penn State is changing its campus with a plan to add native plants and protect heritage trees—donors Harry Burns and Pat Wirth donated $132,000 to launch the Chapel Woods project and fund a Sustainable Landscapes Endowment. Student volunteers planted trees on Earth Day, and future projects will start when funds allow.  Penn State
  • The Penn State Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders now offers an ASL minor to help undergraduate students learn sign language and study Deaf culture—students can add the 18-credit program through LionPATH and work with their advisers to plan the four-semester course sequence.  Penn State
  • A pair of grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the German Research Foundation will support an international study on neutron star mergers and a 10-week student exchange between Penn State and the University of Jena (Germany). The project led by astrophysicist David Radice will build computer models to study how these cosmic events work and help explain the creation of heavy metals.  Penn State

  • Transportation Services announced fall 2025 service changes at University Park including the launch of ParkWhiz as the new event parking system + updates to CATA, Campus Shuttles, Bike Den hours, and Fleet Operations. CATA resumed full service on August 18 and Campus Shuttles will change routes on August 25.  Penn State

SPORTS NEWS

  • Penn State men’s basketball will host NC Central on Dec. 29 in Happy Valley as part of their 2025–26 nonconference slate—this matchup marks the first meeting between the teams with NC Central coming from the MEAC.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State has four players named preseason All-Americans by the Associated Press — defensive tackle Zane Durant, guard Vega Ioane, and running back Nick Singleton earned first-team honors while running back Kaytron Allen was named second-team, tying the school with Texas for the most selections in the country.  StateCollege.com
  • Penn State offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki said his decision to stay helped spark a domino effect that led many veteran players—including quarterback Drew Allar and running back Nick Singleton—to return for one final season in hopes of winning a national championship. The team is bolstered by new financial incentives from NIL deals and a pay-for-play payroll after the House v. NCAA settlement as it holds a No.2 preseason ranking.  StateCollege.com
