CRIME NEWS

  • University police charged Penn State football players Dejuan Lane and Kenny Woseley Jr. with possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct on July 28 at their Nittany Apartments — an officer smelled marijuana and later found THC dust and a vape with THC, along with a citation for purchasing alcohol by a minor — and they will appear in court on August 27.  Onward State

  • The Downtown State College Improvement District will host a free discussion on August 20 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. about New York Times bestselling author Casey McQuiston’s latest romantic comedy, The Pairing — a story where two bisexual exes on a European food and wine tour challenge each other in a romantic wager.  Downtown State College

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Cambria County judge ordered Express Scripts to pause its plan to end its contract with Martella’s Pharmacy—affecting six locations in Cambria, Westmoreland, and Somerset counties—after a law firm filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of 300 patients; a hearing is set for Wednesday to let both sides present their arguments.  WTAJ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Penn State women's basketball will play South Carolina on Dec. 14 in a nonconference game at South Carolina—South Carolina is a three-time champion and Penn State won 55 to 50 in 2011.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State men's soccer named captains Freddie Bell, Ben Liscum, and Matthew Henderson on Friday for the 2025 season—after strong performances last season—and the team will open its season at home on August 21 against Stetson.  Onward State
  • Penn State has secured a commitment from Curt Friedrich, a two way player from Summit, New Jersey who plays outfielder and left handed pitcher. He threw 88 mph this summer and will join the Nittany Lions in the 2028 baseball season.  Daily Collegian
  • The Penn State football team named five co-captains for the 2025 season at photo day in Beaver Stadium—repeat co-captains Drew Allar, Nick Dawkins and Dom DeLuca and first-time leaders Zane Durant and Tyler Duzansky—who will guide the team as it prepares for a home opener on Aug. 30.  StateCollege.com
  • Penn State women's soccer players Molly Martin, Kaitlyn MacBean, and Amelia White—selected after strong seasons marked by Martin's complete match play, MacBean's scoring streak, and White's key assists—were named Big Ten players to watch.
