ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A driver crashed a car into Bonfire OldFashioned BBQ at 2609 E. College Ave in College Township Tuesday morning—damaging the brick wall and leaving debris in the dining room, which forced a temporary stop to dine-in and takeout services until repairs and code approval are complete.  StateCollege.com

BUSINESS NEWS

  • State College-based DojoNetworks earned a spot on the Inc. 5000 list with three-year revenue growth of over 176% from 2021 to 2024. Founded by Penn State graduates and initially serving off-campus students, the company has grown into a national provider of managed WiFi services (including solutions for multi-tenant housing) and will be honored at a 2025 conference in Phoenix.  StateCollege.com

  • WPSU has received three Mid-Atlantic Regional Emmy Award nominations for its programs The Chance to Wrestle, Culinary Connections: Food is Our Love Language, and Healing the Red Mo—winners will be announced on Sept. 20 at the Marriott Downtown Philadelphia.  Penn State

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences alumnus Jeffrey A. Conrad donated $100,000 to set up an Access and Equity discretionary fund aimed at removing barriers for future students — the gift will support flexible programs run by the Office of Access and Equity. The fund will expand initiatives like mentoring for first-generation and low-income students — strengthening inclusive opportunities on campus.  Penn State
  • Jezenia Marrero, a first-generation communications student from Fort Lauderdale, is completing a summer internship at Warner Bros. Discovery in Atlanta—she works as a sports production intern at TNT Sports to gain video editing and networking experience. Her role builds on her previous work with Penn State Athletics and student TV shows as she prepares for a future in her field.  Penn State
  • Penn State scientists have modeled tiny robots that use sound to work together like a swarm, which could help clean pollution or deliver medicine in the future. The computer simulation shows that simple robots can tune their signals to a strong call — a finding that may guide smarter, self-healing microrobots.  Penn State

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After a death last week of a 32 year old Chinese national at the Moshannon Valley ICE Processing Center in Clearfield County, Congressman Glenn Thompson pushed back against critics and said he has often toured the facility. The center—one of the largest on the East Coast with a nearly 1,900 detainee capacity—is run under a contract with Clearfield County, Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the GEO Group.  ABC 23

  • W. Larry Kenney was named lead of IEE's Health and the Environment theme to guide research on how environmental challenges affect human health—he will act as the main contact for researchers and help shape safety guidelines based on his work in thermal physiology.  Penn State
