- ➤ Robert ‘Pete’ Lauck celebrated his 100th birthday last weekend at the Pine Grove Mills VFW Post 5825 where neighbors, friends and family shared cupcakes, stories and his favorite hot dog bar. Born Aug. 1, 1925, he served in World War II and later worked at Penn State—his hard work and clean living remain a cherished part of our community—as he marks a century of life. StateCollege.com

- ➤ Elementary Explorers will offer a hands-on science event on August 12 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Downtown State College Improvement District where Penn State graduate students will teach young students about geology—registration is required for one of the 20 spots and grown-ups must stay with their child.
