- ➤ Discovery Day is on August 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Children's Department downtown—visitors can make Color Wheel Collages on a first come, first served basis with limited supplies and no registration required. Downtown State College
- ➤ Robert ‘Pete’ Lauck celebrated his 100th birthday last weekend at the Pine Grove Mills VFW Post 5825 where neighbors, friends and family shared cupcakes, stories and his favorite hot dog bar. Born Aug. 1, 1925, he served in World War II and later worked at Penn State—his hard work and clean living remain a cherished part of our community—as he marks a century of life. StateCollege.com

- ➤ Elementary Explorers will offer a hands-on science event on August 12 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Downtown State College Improvement District where Penn State graduate students will teach young students about geology—registration is required for one of the 20 spots and grown-ups must stay with their child. - ➤ Former Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter made his NFL preseason debut for the Giants on Aug. 9 against the Bills and recorded three quarterback pressures and one tackle.
