EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Penn State College of Education hosted the second annual World Campus D.Ed. Summer Summit at University Park—bringing together 46 online students from around the U.S. and world to attend seminars, lectures, and group work that built strong academic and personal bonds. The weeklong event offered in-person opportunities that bridged digital learning with direct faculty interaction—helping participants forge lasting connections.  Penn State
  • Penn State recognized 20 employees for going above and beyond in their roles as part of its regular 'We Are!' series—honoring staff from administration, IT, and facilities—and thanked them for their contributions that help the University run smoothly.  Penn State
  • Penn State computer science researchers used a radar sensor to capture cellphone speech vibrations from about 10 feet away and turned them into text with about 60% accuracy — the study raises questions about privacy risks. Their work was published in the Proceedings of WiSec 2025 and builds on earlier tests that used similar technology.  Penn State

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Representatives Paul Takac and Kerry Benninghoff said the state budget missed the June 30 deadline for the fourth year in a row, which is now causing problems for local governments, school districts and social service providers. Takac said the compromised budget passed in early July should fund investments in education, healthcare and veterans—while Benninghoff warned that proposals for extra spending could worsen the state’s structural deficit.  WTAJ
  • Penn State’s Ag Progress Days returns for its 49th year at the Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center in Rock Springs from Tuesday to Thursday, attracting up to 50,000 visitors—Ferguson Township police advise drivers to allow extra time and take alternate routes as Nixon Road will close from 3 to 7 p.m. daily for local traffic management.  StateCollege.com
  • Centre County will receive $526,589 from a Pennsylvania elections grant program and will use the funds for the November general election and May primary to cover costs such as voter registration, staffing, Election Day operations & equipment, with the elections office set to move into a new community services building in Bellefonte. Commissioners said the grant helps update the county's election process ahead of these upcoming events.  StateCollege.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • Penn State football tight end Khalil Dinkins was named to the Mackey Award watch list on Friday — he had 14 receptions for 122 yards and two touchdowns last season. Award semifinalists will be named on October 30 — finalists on November 25 and the winner announced live on ESPN on December 11.  Onward State
  • On August 8, Penn State promoted Brandon Hall to athletic trainer; he served as the assistant trainer since 2011 and earned his master’s degree from Michigan State—he has spent his career with the Nittany Lions.  Daily Collegian
