CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Former Penn State football doctor Scott Lynch is returning to court after receiving $5.25 million from his 2019 lawsuit against Penn State Health. Lynch alleges that Penn State and former Athletics Integrity Officer Robert Boland concealed player injury complaints and gave them 20 days to respond — no court date has been set. Daily Collegian

- ➤ Penn State's chemical engineering department was renamed the Robert V. Waltemeyer Department of Chemical Engineering after a $5M gift from alumnus Robert V. Waltemeyer and his wife Gloria; the Board of Trustees approved the change in June and the endowment has long supported scholarships, research and faculty work. Penn State
- ➤ OLLI at Penn State is hosting an open house for community members aged 50 and older on Tuesday, Aug. 19 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Outreach Innovation Building (100 Innovation Drive) where light refreshments, including Penn State Bakery cookies, will be served and attendees can learn about fall courses, travel, volunteer opportunities and social events. - ➤ Penn State Extension’s Master Watershed Steward program will hold its sixth annual native tree and shrub sale this fall at 29 locations, accepting orders until 5 p.m. Aug. 27 with curbside pickup available in September or October. Funds from the sale will support volunteer efforts to repair streams, plant trees, and educate youth — strengthening local watershed management. Penn State

- ➤ A guidebook that spotlights Centre County's gravel cycling trails launched on Thursday and includes QR codes for live GPS navigation—free copies were available at a launch party held at Boal City Brewing from 5—7 p.m., with extra copies offered at the HVAB office during regular business hours. - ➤ Penn State quarterback Drew Allar was named to the Davey O’Brien Award watch list on August 7 after being a semifinalist last season—he threw for 3,327 yards and 24 touchdowns in 2024 and is also on the Maxwell and Walter Camp Award watch lists. Onward State
