- ➤ Kayla Cwalina overcame a serious motorcycle accident during move-in week to earn dual degrees in criminology and rehabilitation and human services while leading the Indigenous Peoples’ Student Association. She helped launch Penn State’s first Indigenous Peoples’ Day—an effort that strengthened her resolve to focus on healing and plan for graduate studies in criminology. Penn State

- ➤ The new state operated Fine Wine & Good Spirits store at 1536 N Atherton St. in Ferguson Township is opening today under the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board—shutting down the nearby Village Square location. The store offers 10% off on wines, spirits and accessories from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. with free tastings from noon to 10 p.m. StateCollege.com
- ➤ State College Borough Council approved a $1.4 million contract with HRI, Inc. to begin reconstructing four blocks of West Foster Avenue between South Fraser and South Atherton later this month. The project will replace roadway pavement, curbs and gutters + add ADA compliant curb ramps, sidewalk restoration and sewer improvements, with notice to proceed coming soon, substantial completion in December and final restoration by May 1. - ➤ The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board opened the Fine Wine and Good Spirits Premium Collection store at 1536 N. Atherton St. today after relocating from the Village Square plaza + renovating the former Rite Aid site. The store will offer a one-day 10 percent discount on wines, spirits and accessories from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. + free product samplings from noon to 8 p.m. for customers 21 and older. PennLive

- ➤ Penn State women's volleyball is ranked No. 2 in the first AVCA preseason poll after winning the national championship last season and earning 21 first-place votes while rival Nebraska received 40; the team will open its season with the AVCA First Serve Showcase against No. 12 Creighton at 5 p.m. on August 23 and will face four of the top 10 teams this season. - ➤ Former Penn State offensive lineman Landon Tengwall joined 1-0 Podcast hosts Lexie Linderman and Will Horstman to discuss his expectations for fall camp. He will launch The Landon Tengwall Show as camp begins — offering local fans a preview of an exciting season. Daily Collegian
- ➤ Penn State men's hockey has made its jersey numbers official for the 2025-26 season and three returning players switched numbers while nine newcomers kept theirs. Forward Nic Chin-DeGraves went from 17 to 71, forward JJ Wiebusch jumped from 20 to 86, and forward Andrew Kuzma traded 11 for 91 — changes that set the stage for the new season —. Daily Collegian
- ➤ Penn State football wide receivers Devonte Ross and Trebor Peña were named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list and are in their final season as new transfers. Ross, a Troy transfer who led the Sun Belt with 11 receiving touchdowns last season — Peña, from Syracuse, earned 84 receptions and 941 yards as he prepares for his last season. Onward State
- ➤ Penn State women's soccer coach Erica Dambach has built a remarkable 18-year legacy—earning a national championship, 11 Big Ten regular season titles, 5 tournament titles, and 18 NCAA appearances—and she previously served as a USWNT assistant coach.
