  • The State College Downtown Rotary’s Ice Cream Fest celebrated its 10th year on Saturday, Aug. 2 when hundreds gathered on South Allen Street for ice cream, a petting zoo, a bounce house and other fun activities. Eleven local and regional vendors provided treats while ticket proceeds went toward community grants — an ice cream eating contest between high school football teams added extra excitement.  StateCollege.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Smithsonian Biologist Jay Falk will speak at a free event on August 5 from 2:00 pm—3:00 pm in downtown State College Improvement District to share insights from The Bird Book on the science and cultural history of birds. He will explain how birds evolved from dinosaurs and discuss their roles in myths, legends, songs, and art.  Downtown State College

  • At Penn State, coach James Franklin said his team ignores preseason rankings and focuses on daily practice as fall camp unfolds. Players and new coaching staff ignore media noise—dedicating themselves to preparing for the upcoming season.  Daily Collegian
  • Linebacker Amare Campbell impressed at media day on Saturday, August 2nd as he began his transition to the Nittany Lions after two seasons at North Carolina—coach Dan Connor and teammate Tony Rojas welcomed his proven skills to help fill a key linebacker need. He aims to build on past performance while quickly adapting to Penn State’s defensive scheme.  StateCollege.com
  • On Saturday, Aug. 2, Coach James Franklin met local reporters in Beaver Stadium to share his top 10 takeaways from media day, highlighting strong player depth, high expectations and concerns over injuries. He said the team is prepared with temporary stadium upgrades + experienced players as it gets ready for the season opener on Aug. 30 against Nevada.  StateCollege.com
  • Cooper Hillen, a two-way shortstop and pitcher from Lampeter-Strasburg, committed to Penn State on August 2nd via X—he hit .321 and posted a 0.58 ERA in high school and is a 2027 commit.  Daily Collegian
