- ➤ The State College Downtown Rotary’s Ice Cream Fest celebrated its 10th year on Saturday, Aug. 2 when hundreds gathered on South Allen Street for ice cream, a petting zoo, a bounce house and other fun activities. Eleven local and regional vendors provided treats while ticket proceeds went toward community grants — an ice cream eating contest between high school football teams added extra excitement. - ➤ Smithsonian Biologist Jay Falk will speak at a free event on August 5 from 2:00 pm—3:00 pm in downtown State College Improvement District to share insights from The Bird Book on the science and cultural history of birds. He will explain how birds evolved from dinosaurs and discuss their roles in myths, legends, songs, and art. Downtown State College
