ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Electric bills are rising this summer as record-high power auction prices and heat waves have driven up demand, and officials warn bills will likely go up further next year. The recent auction on July 22 showed a 22% price jump that is expected to add about a 5% increase to next summer's bills — a change following a settlement that reduced costs by $1.6 billion. - ➤ Penn State will host Ag Progress Days from Aug. 12 to 14 at the Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center — 9 miles from State College on Route 45 — where the College of Agricultural Sciences will show advanced technology aimed at boosting food production, protecting natural resources, and improving animal health with hands-on exhibits and expert talks. - ➤ Guido Cervone has been named director of the Institute for Computational and Data Sciences at Penn State and he served as interim director since April 2024. He will lead new research initiatives by aligning major projects with high-performance computing and expanding the co-hire faculty model. Penn State

- ➤ A Penn State Health stroke care coordinator said outdoor exercise can lower risk factors for stroke by reducing high blood pressure, obesity and high cholesterol—she urged people to walk for at least 10 minutes at cooler times and to stay hydrated while checking how their medications react to the heat. The season will begin on Aug. 30th with a family reunion game and include THON on Sept. 6th, All-U Day on Sept. 13th, White Out on Sept. 27th, Homecoming and Stripe Out on Oct. 11th, Helmet Stripe and Military Appreciation on Nov. 8th, and Senior Day on Nov. 22nd—these themes offer fans a new look each contest. - ➤ Penn State women's volleyball released its promotional schedule for the 2025 season. The team will start on Sept. 5 with a Championship Celebration against Kentucky and will host events on Sept. 26 (Team Ream Game), Sept. 28 (THON night), Oct. 10 (White Out), and in November with matches on Nov. 2 (V Foundation), Nov. 16 (Military Appreciation), and Nov. 23 (Family & Friends Day and Senior Day)—each event offering a unique theme.
