- ➤ Alice Breon turned 100 on a warm Friday when locals gathered at Saint John's United Church of Christ in Boalsburg to celebrate her active life. She drives, writes books & plays the snare drum, showing everyone how to enjoy every minute. StateCollege.com
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ State Theatre will host two events this week—on Wednesday July 30, Despicable Me 4 will show at noon in the Friedman Auditorium, and on Thursday July 31, TUSK: The Classic Fleetwood Mac Tribute will perform at 8 p.m. with doors opening at 7 p.m. Tickets for the concert cost $50 in advance and $58 at the door. - ➤ The FDA announced that 110,292 cases of ice cream bars from the Florida-based Rich Ice Cream Co. have been recalled due to possible Listeria contamination. Some of the recalled products — with lot numbers 24351 to 25156 — were sold in Pennsylvania and the recall remains ongoing. WTAJ

- ➤ Penn State Commonwealth campus athletes delivered record-breaking performances in baseball, soccer, basketball, track, and golf during the 2024-25 season despite risks of future campus closures. Key contributors include Eddie Wess, Jack Montesdeoca, James Sibert, Samara Ayodele, Isaac Lane, Alex Brinkman, Faith Sullivan, Jedidiah Ashton, and Ben Zimmerman, who earned top honors and set records for their teams. - ➤ Right-handed setter Molly Robertson committed to join Penn State Volleyball as the fourth recruit in the class of 2027 after a season that earned her PA Player of the Year honors and helped North Allegheny High School win its eighth state championship—she joins Nejari Cooks, Taylor Harrington, and Olivia Henry. - ➤ Penn State baseball has added outfielder Maddox McDonald from the transfer portal; he is a graduate transfer who spent two years at Trinity University (he started in 52 games last season with a 100% fielding percentage in 78 outs) and recorded 75 runs and 72 RBIs. He was named to the All-SCAC Second Team (and earned SCAC Hitter of the Week honors while helping Trinity reach the NCAA III Playoffs). Onward State
- ➤ Coach Mike Rhoades said the team will try different lineups next season to build a stronger frontcourt and keep their deep rotation from last year. He explained that groupings of guards, wings, and bigs may help the team compete against opponents with larger players—changes that could affect both scoring and defense. Daily Collegian
- ➤ Penn State set a record by winning four national championships in one season back in 1979–80, and teams from football, wrestling, volleyball, soccer and hockey are looking to break that record this coming season.
