EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dima Alsudairy, a Penn State senior double majoring in advertising/public relations and international politics, is interning at the United Nations in Washington, D.C. She said her role is enriching her skills for an international career—she credits Penn State support for helping her reach her goals.  Penn State
  • Penn State researchers are developing force-detecting MEMS sensors that work in harsh conditions and are funded by a two-year, $2 million DARPA grant under the HORCREX program. The team, led by Mingyo 'Leen' Park, is designing a sensor that uses a single chip—featuring a frequency comb for extracting multi-band data—in applications for aerospace and defense.  Penn State
  • Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences and AgroParisTech reaffirmed their long-standing partnership by signing a new agreement that expands a seven-week summer internship program for research in France. Three students already participated in projects on food labeling, bioproduct engineering, and urban agriculture — building global skills in sustainable farming.  Penn State
  • The Penn State College of Information Sciences and Technology named Bryan Wright as its summer 2025 student marshal. He will lead the procession of IST graduates at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 16 at the Bryce Jordan Center and completed his degree remotely.  Penn State

  • Sergeant Nicholas Sproveri of the Penn State police was named Centre County's 2024 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year—recognized for his work on complex cases—and received the honor from the Centre County District Attorney’s Office.  WTAJ

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Penn State Health vascular expert said that chronic venous insufficiency causes leg swelling, aching and varicose veins and advised staying active, using compression stockings, and maintaining a healthy weight to manage the condition. He explained that early detection and treatment can help reduce further complications.  Penn State

SPORTS NEWS

  • Penn State Athletics announced yesterday the launch of ROAR+ as a new subscription service offering exclusive content on student-athletes, podcasts and game highlights. The service offers four membership tiers (White Level, Blue Level, Nittany Elite and Ultimate Lion) with monthly and yearly options, and the first 500 subscribers will enter a sweepstakes to win two tickets plus extra perks for the football game versus Oregon on Sept. 27.  Daily Collegian
  • B1G Tailgate will return to Happy Valley for the Penn State-FIU game on September 6 at Beaver Stadium. Hosted by Camryn Irwin and Tyvis Powell, the show airs on Big Ten Network from 10 to 11:30 a.m. + B1G Countdown to Kickoff runs until noon.  Onward State
