COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Penn State’s Ag Progress Days will feature riding lawnmower safety demonstrations to show best practices—including a demo of a retrofitted tractor with a vision-based shut-off system—at the Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center in Rock Springs from Aug. 12–14.  Penn State

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A three-vehicle crash on the 2200 block of North Atherton Street on Monday just before 12:30 p.m. injured two people who were taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center and closed the road until about 2:30 p.m.—police said no charges are expected as they continue to investigate.  StateCollege.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Penn State Alumni Association will hold a livestream ceremony for Volunteer Awards on July 27 at the University Park campus — six individual awards and nine group awards will be presented with acceptance speeches sharing volunteer stories. Penn Staters may register to watch the event and learn how the honorees give back to the University and local communities.  Penn State
  • Allison Sailors, a junior advertising and public relations major, is completing two summer internships as she works one day in person at Bellefonte-based Flyland Designs and one day remotely with Joy Healing Co. She is researching social media strategies—such as client outreach and branding initiatives—to help both companies grow and explore her future career options.  Penn State
  • Penn State Residential Dining will open Nosh Kosher Deli in North Food District for fall to serve specialty sandwiches, matzo ball soup, potato latkes, and desserts while a certified Mashgiach ensures kosher standards—this new station will operate for lunch and dinner from Sunday through Thursday via mobile ordering on Penn State Eats.  Penn State
  • Greg Roszyk, a Penn State computer science graduate, and his wife Marnie Salisbury committed $1 million to the College of Information Sciences and Technology to establish two endowments—a $600,000 fund for short-term needs and a $400,000 scholarship for students with a 3.5 GPA+ They have donated regularly over many years and plan to inspire other donors with this milestone gift+  Penn State
  • Researchers at Penn State Neuroscience Institute are testing how brain cells work to help us remember and decide while looking for new ways to treat brain diseases. The institute (with over 100 faculty members) will host the Big Ten Neuroscience Annual Meeting on July 21-22, where experts (including 50 graduate students) will share their research.  Penn State

  • Golfers in Philipsburg teed off Friday, July 11 at the Philipsburg Elks Lodge and Country Club as the Emily Whitehead Foundation held its 10th annual tournament to raise funds for childhood cancer therapies — the foundation has raised over $500,000 in the past 10 years.  WTAJ

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Inch & Co. Construction and Cascade Capital announced a new $47 million townhome project called University Park Townes in State College, with groundbreaking planned for September. The project will feature 146 three-story townhomes near Beaver Stadium and the State College Regional Airport to serve both long-term and short-term residents.  Daily Collegian

  • Penn State Baseball pitcher Ryan DeSanto was selected No. 372 overall by the Cleveland Guardians in the 12th round of the MLB Draft on Monday — he is the first pitcher drafted from the program since 2023 and the third Nittany Lion chosen in 2025.  Onward State
