- ➤ Happy Valley Restaurant Week will run for 10 days from June 13 to 22 and bring nearly 30 local restaurants together to showcase creative dishes such as braised rabbit ravioli and Bloody Mary Burger; organizer Maggie Anderson said the event will feature a Pepsi-sponsored cocktail contest plus a ticket giveaway for Altoona Curve and State College Spikes. - ➤ Journalism major Amanda Vogt earned a scholarship from the Golf Writers Association of America — she is shadowing media members at Oakmont Country Club at the 125th U.S. Open from June 10th to 15th to gain hands-on experience in sports communications. Penn State
- ➤ Based on employee feedback, Penn State will shift its annual goal setting and performance review cycle to start on July 1 and run through June 30 to align with the fiscal year. The new schedule means employees will begin entering goals in Workday on Aug. 4, creating a consistent timeline for evaluations. Penn State
- ➤ Penn State announced several administrative updates including resumed student loan enforcement, revised employee reviews, and faculty promotions effective July 1, while also highlighting its $15.8B economic impact and community programs like a golf outing that raised $30,000 for student scholarships. The university reported new leadership appointments and strategic plans for its Commonwealth Campuses—actions that show the institution’s ongoing commitment to evolving its operations and outreach. - ➤ Evan Bozek, a doctoral candidate at Penn State College of Engineering, has won the DOE Office of Science Graduate Student Research Award and will study how fractures change rock behavior at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. He will use computer models to learn how rock cracks affect sound and water flow—insights that may improve energy recovery and carbon storage projects. Penn State
- ➤ Patrick Hickey, a spring 2025 graduate of Penn State’s Stuckeman School, won the Department of Architecture’s 2025 Jawaid Haider Award for his thesis that studies the ADA’s impact on building design. - ➤ The Penn State One Health Microbiome Center released a study on how all types of microbes can help keep people, animals and plants healthy. - ➤ Penn State baseball had its most wins since 2000 and on Tuesday three players were named to the ABCA All-Region Teams for the East Region. The honors went to junior outfielder Paxton Kling (named All-Big Ten, Defensive, and Tournament teams) and to sophomore designated hitter Jack Porter (who played only 47 games before a hand injury) along with junior pitcher Ryan DeSanto, who was named to the second team. - ➤ Penn State track and field is set to compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championship in Eugene, Oregon from today through Saturday. Eight athletes, including Handal Roban and Allon Clay who start in the 800-meter event at 5:58 p.m. today, will compete in several races as they aim to reach the finals. Daily Collegian
