COMMUNITY NEWS

  • AAUW State College hosted its record-setting Used Book Sale from May 17–20 at Penn State’s Snider Ag Arena, drawing 7,267 shoppers and raising more than $200,000 that netted $161,475 for community grants. The funds will support local nonprofit programs that empower women and girls in areas like STEM and health while helping offset rising operating costs.  StateCollege.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Lenten Ecumenical Choir from Centre County will perform at Carnegie Hall tomorrow at 1 p.m.—an invitation extended by composer Michael John Trotta that includes choirs from several states.  StateCollege.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ferguson Township police have launched a recruitment for a new chief and have named Lieutenant Daniel Lewis—an officer with 13 years’ experience—as interim head while community surveys and interviews help guide the decision. The township will complete the process and hire a permanent chief by October.  StateCollege.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • At Charles Schwab Field, Penn State baseball’s season ended when Nebraska defeated the Nittany Lions 6-3 in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals. Nebraska built its lead in the second and seventh innings and the loss ended Penn State’s championship chances — the rematch echoed their 2024 Big Ten Championship meeting.  Daily Collegian
  • On Saturday, the No. 5-seeded Penn State men’s lacrosse team lost 11-9 to No. 1 Cornell in the NCAA Tournament semifinal in Boston—this loss means the team will wait another year for a chance at its first national championship appearance.  StateCollege.com
  • State College boys track and field won the PIAA Class 3A team championship on Saturday at Shippensburg University’s Seth Grove Stadium with gold winners Adam Bell in the pole vault, Jesse Myers in the 200-meter, and Nathan Haas in the javelin. The team earned 53 points against runner-up Palmyra—boosting their record further—and secured the Little Lions’ seventh state title.  PennLive
  • Penn State baseball's season ended today with a 6—3 loss to Nebraska in the Big Ten Tournament semifinal as the team could not keep its lead and allowed key runs that sealed the game. The loss means the Nittany Lions will not earn an NCAA Tournament bid and marks the close of a season with strong individual efforts.  Onward State
