COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Boalsburg will host a full weekend of Memorial Day events starting today and continuing through May 26, featuring a Fire Company Carnival, guided tours at Boal Mansion and Columbus Chapel and a parade that kicks off the celebrations. Additional activities include a 5k walk, historical reenactments at the Pennsylvania Military Museum and live shows that honor the service of our veterans.  StateCollege.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Pastor Harold McKenzie stepped down after 35 years at Unity Church of Jesus Christ and on May 3 his son Ephraim took over as lead pastor. Ephraim, a State College native (who grew up in the congregation) was installed (after serving as executive pastor) to continue the church's work.  StateCollege.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three videos produced by Penn State students won six awards in three categories at the Communicator Awards, a global competition that drew more than 3,000 entries. Their work included projects in corporate training and university promotion — efforts that provided real-world media production experience.  Penn State
  • The members of the Penn State Faculty Alliance delivered a petition with over 500 signatures to President Bendapudi on Wednesday to protest the planned closure of seven Commonwealth campuses after the 2026-27 school year, saying the process was rushed and did not consider the full impact on workers and students. The Board of Trustees will vote on the proposal at 5 p.m. today—leaving many faculty and staff uncertain of their future.  StateCollege.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Centre County voters cast 18,829 ballots in the municipal primary election on Tuesday, and unofficial results show that State College Mayor Ezra Nanes was reelected with 1,535 votes along with other local officials winning their contests — district attorney Bernie Cantorna won unopposed while borough council members, school board candidates, and judges also secured their seats. The results, covering statewide and local races, were posted after voting closed — they reflect the county’s preliminary count.  Daily Collegian

  • Penn State baseball opened its tournament play on Wednesday at 3 p.m. on the Big Ten Network when it faced Washington, and the No. 9 seeded team will face USC today at 3 p.m.+ They hope a win will help them advance from Pool D.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State football has added its latest enrollees, including transfers wide receiver Trebor Pena and linebacker Amare Campbell and 10 freshmen with different body builds that will need work before the season begins. Two freshmen, running back Jabree Wallace-Coleman and defensive end Daniel Jennings, will join later as coaches prepare them for a competitive season — strength coach Chuck Losey is set to guide their transformation.  StateCollege.com
