  • North Atherton Farmers Market is opening today in the Home Depot parking lot at 2615 Greentech Drive and will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday until Nov. 8—thirty vendors will offer fresh produce, meats, baked goods and other locally made items.  StateCollege.com
  • Centre Gives 2025 ended May 15 with a record $2,837,295 raised from 17,841 gifts to over 230 local nonprofits, surpassing last year’s total. The event featured a festival at Brass 16823 in Bellefonte with food trucks and music — a sign of strong community support.  StateCollege.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • 814 Originals launched on May 14 at The State Theatre in State College to showcase local musicians by premiering five music videos of live original performances. The project by Happy Valley Sports & Entertainment Alliance and Spaces in Between Productions featured acts including Caledonia — Chris Bell Duo — Hannah Bingman — Ma’aM — Mellow Honey and aims to boost exposure to local venues.  StateCollege.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Penn State Smeal College of Business Ethics Case Team has won first place at the International Business Ethics Case Competition for the fifth year in a row, earning top honors in the 25-minute and 90-second presentations under team captain Angela Lam Li—a win that highlights their strong focus on ethical issues in marketing ZYN oral nicotine patches to protect underage consumers. The team, which also includes sophomores Brenna Boer, Tyler Scher and Noa Becker, addressed ambiguous messaging that boosted usage among young people and argued for a proactive marketing approach to build trust between companies and the public.  Penn State

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Penn State Board of Trustees met in session Thursday to discuss President Neeli Bendapudi’s plan to close the DuBois campus due to low enrollment and an aging population— they set a public meeting on May 22 at 5 p.m. to share more details via livestream. Local alum and donor Dan Kohlhepp questioned where his pledge would go if the campus shuts down after the 2027 spring semester.  WTAJ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Four-star edge rusher Daniel Jennings reclassified from the 2026 to the 2025 class and will enroll at Penn State this summer. The Princeton native, ranked as the No. 25 edge rusher nationally, chose the Nittany Lions over West Virginia and Illinois.  Onward State
  • Fifth-seeded Penn State beat Colgate last Saturday in a tough match to earn a spot in the national quarterfinals in Annapolis. The team will face No. 10 Notre Dame at noon Sunday — coach Jeff Tambroni said key players must work together to counter a strong offense.  Daily Collegian
  • After a Thursday 7 to 1 win over the Musketeers, Penn State baseball moved its Friday game against Xavier from FNB Field to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park where it started at 5:30 p.m. and was streamed on Big Ten Plus.   • Penn State baseball edged Xavier 7-6 in a tight game at Medlar Field—key hits and pitching helped secure the win. The Nittany Lions will play their senior day game today at 1 p.m. at Medlar Field.  Onward State
  • The 2025 Special Olympics Pennsylvania Summer Games will take place on Penn State’s University Park campus June 5—7 and local volunteers will help with tasks like welcoming athletes, managing logistics, and assisting with events. The games will host nearly 2,000 athletes and 800 coaches and offer volunteer shifts of 3 to 4 hours.  Penn State
