- ➤ Local letter carriers will take part in the nationwide Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Saturday, May 10 by collecting non-perishable food items from mailboxes and post offices in State College, Bellefonte, Boalsburg, Lemont and Pine Grove Mills—residents are asked to leave donations near their cluster boxes or contact their local office if needed as Mayor Ezra Nanes declared the day Letter Carriers’ Food Drive Day. - ➤ Downtown State College will soon welcome The Press, a new cider and craft beverage tap house set to open at 113 Heister St. by Arts Fest; co-owner and Penn State professor Kory Blose said the venue will feature rotating taps of local ciders, meads and wines—mixing craft drinks with community conversation. - ➤ A Penn State alum, Jeffrey Brian Teti (47) was charged with attempted invasion of privacy, loitering and prowling at night and disorderly conduct after security footage and multiple police calls showed him peeking into dorm windows from November 2024 to March, and a preliminary hearing is set for June 4. - ➤ HUB-Robeson Galleries is hosting the Happy Valley Animation Festival—running from May 1 through May 22—that features award-winning animated films from around the world. The event is free to attend and shown on three screens. Penn State

- ➤ Penn State suspended the Acacia fraternity indefinitely effective May 7 after reports of hazing and misconduct led the chapter to withdraw its recognition; the group lost all university privileges and will operate off campus as an unrecognized organization—students are advised to avoid engagement. This suspension remains in place for a minimum of four years. Penn State
- ➤ Penn State Smeal College of Business will award more than 2,000 degrees during commencement ceremonies on May 10 and May 11 at events held at the Bryce Jordan Center, Business Building Atrium, and Pegula Ice Arena. Nearly 14,600 diplomas will be given to graduates across various programs+ including undergraduates, master’s and doctoral candidates, with DuPont CEO Lori Koch set to speak at the undergrad ceremony at 9 a.m. on May 10. - ➤ The State College Area School Board reviewed an updated cost estimate and tentative designs for the new Park Forest Middle School on Little Lion Drive with estimated costs between $127.9 million and $136.9 million—this estimate may increase by about $2.8 million if alternate options are added. The board will present a third-party cost estimate in July and schedule public meetings, with construction set to begin in January or February 2026 and take two years to complete. StateCollege.com

- ➤ Starting May 12, Penn State Campus Recreation will offer $160 summer memberships to the outdoor pool at McCoy Natatorium for anyone 18 and older, with memberships running until Aug 22. - ➤ Ellie Koerner was diagnosed with leukemia as a child and turned her pain into hope by starting the Ellie Koerner Leukemia Foundation to help families at CHOP and Ronald McDonald House. After dancing at THON to raise funds, she now plans to attend medical school to become a doctor—she says her early struggles taught her to care for patients beyond their illness. Onward State
