- ➤ Last week’s storms led to about 1,500 911 calls in one hour, and Centre County officials are studying ways to improve emergency response—Commissioner Chair Mark Higgins said better infrastructure and state support are needed for future emergencies. The State College Food Bank is offering free emergency food and extra SNAP dollars for those reporting food loss by May 9—helping residents recover from power outages. WTAJ
- ➤ Borough Council approved a $568,339 contract with WG Land Company LLC to perform site work for the planned $2.4 million High Point Skatepark at High Point Park on Whitehall Road. The park, which will replace an unused baseball field and include facilities for skateboards, scooters and bikes—construction set to begin later this year—is moving forward after years of planning and funding efforts. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Authorities in Centre County said two fraternity members—dean Jacob Francis and president Jayson Archer—were charged with misdemeanor assault and multiple counts of hazing after a weeks-long investigation found evidence of extreme abuse during initiations at the fraternity house on Farmstead Lane, with preliminary hearings set for June 4th. - ➤ Happy Valley Improv Festival will run from May 15 to May 18 at the Blue Brick Theatre in downtown State College—attendees will enjoy 12 shows, hands-on workshops, and events featuring comedians from around the country and local acts.
