EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Penn State students completed a spring break study-abroad course on museum decolonization in the United Kingdom, exploring exhibits at London’s National Portrait Gallery and Cambridge University Museum of Zoology (along with other sites) to learn how museums update and address colonial biases. The experience enriched their understanding of museum curation. Penn State
- ➤ Penn State alums Bobby Morgan, Ben Morgan, Freddie Scott II and professor Beth Shaha will launch Live Prosperous— a leadership program for student entrepreneurs, student-athletes and veterans. It will offer workshops, coaching and a Peer Guardians Program through partnerships with Invent Penn State, the Brand Academy and VBOC. Penn State
- ➤ Penn State Department of Physics earned a Physics and Astronomy SEA Change Bronze Award today for its work to build a more inclusive and supportive academic environment. The five-year recognition means the department will receive periodic guidance to advance its plans. Penn State
- ➤ Transportation Services announced summer 2026 changes to transit and parking at University Park. Faculty/staff permits will allow access to campus lots starting May 11 + CATA is running reduced service from May 4 to 10 and will operate further from May 11 to Aug 16 without Red Link trips. - ➤ Suat Irmak, head of Penn State’s Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering, received the Royce J. Tipton Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers for work in irrigation and drainage engineering + outreach at the 2026 World Environmental and Water Resources Congress held April 26 to 29 in Mobile, Alabama. - ➤ Jeff Brown, longtime instructor and faculty manager of CommRadio at Penn State, will retire from his academic role on June 30 though he will continue as a morning-drive DJ. He has provided hands-on broadcasting experience in State College since 2001 (his career began in 1988). Penn State
- ➤ Schreyer Honors College has announced seven student and two faculty award winners for the 2025-26 academic year. The recipients, honored at Atherton Hall on campus, include scholars recognized for research, service and teaching and will receive financial awards and replica (Nittany Lion Shrine) statues. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Penn State research shows that hunters in DMAP areas get about $87 in value per trip and favor fewer fellow hunters for a more enjoyable experience. The study of 2,127 hunters may lead the Game Commission to adjust permits in state forests near University Park for better deer management. Penn State
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A Penn State research team developed a method to study how genetic changes work with a deletion on chromosome 16 to affect neurodevelopment, including autism and developmental delay. The team used stem cells from patients and families to explore a multi-hit model that may guide future treatment. Penn State
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Penn State Health mourned longtime sports medicine leader Wayne Sebastianelli, who died Monday, May 4, after more than 30 years caring for student-athletes and advancing injury research in the community. Penn State
- ➤ Penn State softball updated the schedule for its Big Ten tournament opener today, moving the start time from 7:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Maryland Softball Stadium (weather concerns prompted the change) as the team prepares to face Northwestern. Daily Collegian
- ➤ State College high school lacrosse player McKenna Whitehurst won the PennLive Player of the Week award last week after scoring three goals in key games. She received 7,084 votes, which made up 66.46% of 10,659 ballots cast, boosting her team's postseason hopes. PennLive
