EDUCATION NEWS

  • On April 25, Lion Caucus held Capital Day on Campus at the HUB-Robeson Center to mobilize over 250 students to petition state legislators for more equitable funding after Penn State’s support had been flat for five years (organizers offered pizza and cookies as students listened to speeches).  Daily Collegian

SPORTS NEWS

  • In Los Angeles on Friday night, Penn State baseball lost 7-6 to No. 15 UCLA—two errors ended a brief ninth-inning lead for the Nittany Lions.  Onward State
  • Penn State men’s lacrosse, the number three seeded team, beat the number six seeded Johns Hopkins by a score of 13 to 12 in a close first round game of the Big Ten Tournament after a ten minute scoring drought. The win sends the Nittany Lions to the semifinals in Ann Arbor to face Maryland at 7:30 p.m. on May 1—an important step for the team.  Onward State
  • Penn State men’s volleyball, the third seed, swept Princeton, the top seed, three to zero at Dillon Gymnasium on Saturday — earning their third straight EIVA title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Standout Matthew Luoma led the team and officials will announce their NCAA matchup on Selection Sunday — marking a strong finish to the season.  Onward State
  • Kobe King, a linebacker at Penn State, was drafted No. 201 overall by the Minnesota Vikings after he chose to skip his redshirt senior season—his strong performance in past seasons helped his selection.  Daily Collegian
  • Lawrence Taylor said he does not want Abdul Carter to wear his famous No.56—he urged him to pick another number after Carter was drafted third overall. Carter said his respect for Taylor means he will work even harder in his NFL career.  PennLive
  • On Friday, Trinity’s Rowan Bayley won the Mid-Penn 2A singles championship and, with teammate Neddish Greddy, secured the district-qualifying doubles title—marking a strong day for the school’s tennis team.  PennLive
  • Penn State coaches and players said the team improved during spring practice as players worked hard at drills and showed more depth in defense. The Blue-White game will be held today at Beaver Stadium as the team pushes toward a strong season—experts praised top performers like cornerback Elliot Washington II and quarterback Drew Allar.  PennLive
  • After spring practice on Saturday, Penn State coach James Franklin said he will look at the portal for linebacker help because injuries and transfers have thinned the unit—he wants to add a player who fits the team’s culture ahead of a season with high championship expectations.  StateCollege.com
