COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Birders from across Centre County and beyond will gather in the 24-hour Shaver’s Creek Birding Cup from 7 p.m. Friday, May 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 2 to support the Hawks View Meadow Observation Platform at Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center — registration closes Sunday, April 26.  Penn State

CULTURE NEWS

  • No Refund Theatre is presenting 'Cabaret,' a classic musical with vibrant sets and choreography directed by Elena Bishop at Forum 111. The final show for the semester runs from April 23 to 25 at 8 p.m. and features a talented cast including Glendon Rugova and Maylin Alvarez.  Onward State

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Penn State will hold its annual Night of Remembrance vigil at Eisenhower Chapel on April 30 at 6 p.m. to honor students who died during the 2025–26 academic year; the ceremony will be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.  Penn State
  • Penn State Transportation Services announced parking permit rate increases effective July 1 at University Park. Non technical service employee rates will rise by $1 to $2 per month while student rates will increase between $4 and $14 per semester.  Penn State
  • Penn State community members are now required to use their new building mailing addresses for all mail and package deliveries to ensure proper service; outdated addresses may lead to returns or misdeliveries. The addresses were established by the University Police and Public Safety 911 addressing project (completed in 2024) and validated by USPS.  Penn State
  • Penn State researchers at CQI in University Park created high-resolution 3D models of polychaete worms for the Smithsonian to help researchers worldwide study specimens without traveling. The non-destructive CT imaging uses advanced X-ray techniques—preserving key details for future research.  Penn State

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Penn State Health expert advises parents that teens can see a gynecologist between ages 13 and 15 if symptoms like heavy periods disrupt school. The appointment focuses on discussion and preventive care (not a pelvic exam) to help teens feel comfortable and informed.  Penn State

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Nittany Lions baseball team will travel to Eugene this weekend for a three-game series, starting with a 9:05 p.m. game at PK Park (in hopes of boosting their ranking ahead of the Big Ten tournament).  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State men's lacrosse ended the regular season 7-5 overall and shared the Big Ten title. They will play in the semifinals, facing the Rutgers-Maryland winner at SHI Stadium (Piscataway) as coach Tambroni expects his team to build more rhythm ahead of the postseason test.  Onward State
  • Penn State guard Vega Ioane was picked in the first round by the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday in the NFL Draft. He started 32 games at Happy Valley and became the first guard and first Nittany Lion selected this year.  StateCollege.com
  • Freshman infielder Allison Oneacre was named a top-25 finalist for the NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year award at Penn State after leading the season with a .385 batting average, 16 home runs, and a program-record 56 RBI. The honor was announced on April 23.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics is ranked fifth in the Learfield Directors’ Cup Division I standings after the 2026 winter season, announced April 23. Ten teams earned 516.5 winter season points, as wrestling captured its national championship and women’s hockey made its first Frozen Four appearance at Pegula Ice Arena.  Penn State
  • Penn State women's basketball secured former NC State guard Devyn Quigley's commitment on Thursday as the third member of the 2026-27 roster. Quigley appeared in 62 games for NC State, averaging 4.3 points and 2.4 rebounds.  Daily Collegian
