- ➤ Ferguson Township will host an Arbor Day celebration at Autumnwood Park on Saturday, Apr. 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.—with a tree planting ceremony and seedling giveaway, plus a playground design workshop where children and community members share ideas for a new inclusive play space. - ➤ The Nittany Valley Symphony will hold its 59th season finale, "Hearts on Fire," at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 1 at Bellefonte Area High School. - ➤ More than 300 members of OLLI (the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) volunteered at University Park on April 14 to support lifelong learning while the event honored longtime volunteer Marian Fritzsche with the Barbara Lindenbaum Award and recognized Carol and Steve Gentry for their service. - ➤ Penn State Campus Recreation earned national recognition for its Choose to Move program that engaged 9,007 participants during Healthy Campus Week on Sept. 17 — the award was given at the 2026 NIRSA IDEA World Annual Conference. Penn State
- ➤ Researchers at Penn State found that different Trichoderma fungus species boost tomato growth and affect soil bacteria at the Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center (a local test site), suggesting these fungi could offer an eco-friendly alternative to pesticides. Penn State
