EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nine Penn State students from Schuylkill and University Park presented original research at ECA in Pittsburgh (with seven papers, three posters, and three panel presentations), where Schuylkill’s Anastasia Rakowsky earned a Top Paper award and joined classmates on a sightseeing boat cruise.  Penn State
  • Nekelle Thomas, a fourth-year architecture student at Penn State’s Stuckeman School, was named a recipient of the 2025 Robert L. Wesley Award (a national honor for BIPOC design students). The award provides a $10,000 prize and a yearlong mentorship program to support her career in architecture.  Penn State
  • A team of Penn State students won District 2 of the American Advertising Federation’s National Student Advertising Competition and will compete in the virtual national semifinal on April 30 — their second district title in three years sets them on track for the national championship.  Penn State
  • Penn State Rep. Perry Stambaugh made a six-figure gift to create the Harry H. and Perry A. Stambaugh Scholarship for agricultural sciences students at Penn State, giving first preference to those pursuing a minor or second major in journalism. The scholarship honors his father’s legacy and supports future ag leaders.  Penn State
  • Penn State students met with lawmakers at the state capitol in Harrisburg on April 14 to urge increased state funding that could help lower tuition costs. The event included over 100 in-person meetings and a digital campaign (with more than 1,400 advocates) to support the call for more funding.  Penn State
  • The Penn State Undergraduate Exhibition for Research, Inquiry and Creative Activity will be open to the public tomorrow in Alumni Hall at the HUB-Robeson Center with sessions from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and noon to 1:30 p.m. Virtual presentations are available until April 22 (a music event is held today).  Penn State

SPORTS NEWS

  • Penn State Men’s Volleyball player Sean Harvey was named EIVA Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after scoring 38 kills (3.8 per set) in two five-set victories over George Mason. His performance clinched the regular-season title and sets momentum for the EIVA Tournament starting Wednesday.  Onward State
  • Penn State men's basketball forward Tibor Mirtič entered the transfer portal after a season shortened by injuries. He played 15 games, averaging 3.7 points and 3.3 rebounds before the season ended.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State forward Tibor Mirtič entered the transfer portal on Monday morning, one day before it closed, making him the eighth Nittany Lion to depart. He played 15 contests last season with modest stats+ Penn State has added veteran transfers and European commitments to bolster the roster for next season.  StateCollege.com
  • Penn State men's lacrosse rose to No. 15 in the Inside Lacrosse Poll after defeating Rutgers 16-8, with Hunter Aquino scoring four goals after returning from injury. The team has a bye week today and will face an opponent in Piscataway on April 30.  Onward State
  • Penn State women's basketball added former Vanderbilt guard Ava Black as the second commit for its 2026-27 team on Monday, Apr. 20. Black, a 5-foot-11 guard who averaged 10 minutes per game at Vanderbilt, joins teammate Kamrah Banks on the squad.  Daily Collegian
  • Kate Kalczynski, a top prospect from Mercy High School (Farmington), committed to Penn State women's volleyball as the third member of the Class of 2027. The 6'1" outside hitter, ranked in the top 20 nationally in blocks and aces, plays for Legacy Volleyball Club.  Onward State
  • Penn State women's lacrosse climbed two spots to No. 19 after a win over No. 22 Rutgers on Saturday, with Erika Ho scoring six goals (four players achieved hat tricks). The team will face No. 4-seed Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday, Apr. 22 at UM Lacrosse Stadium.  Onward State
