COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Penn State’s R-VOICE and the Interfraternity Council will host the Men Against Violence Walk on Apr. 30 at 6 p.m. on University Park’s Old Main campus to offer men and allies a chance to stand against sexual violence—participants will check in at the steps of Old Main and make signs before the walk begins.  Penn State

  • Marine veteran Erin Godfrey and her law enforcement husband launched Joy Tac LLC to design a safer firearm holster with a new SPAR system—winning first place and $15,000 at the 2025 Invent Penn State Inc.U Competition. The company will use the prize money to complete its prototype and cover patent and legal fees as it works with Penn State's OriginLabs.  Penn State

CULTURE NEWS

  • Students learned about the historical impact of tatreez—a traditional Palestinian embroidery—during a lecture on April 16 in the Forum Building organized by Students for Justice in Palestine and the Penn State MENA Caucus. Wafa Ghnaim, a historian and author, led the discussion that connected cultural dress techniques with the preservation of heritage.  Daily Collegian

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Katherine Wheatle announced her campaign to join the board of trustees at Penn State to strengthen inclusion and student support. She leverages her first-generation background and experience in health policy and philanthropy—aiming to build community and address changing enrollment needs.  Onward State
  • Lucy Taylor will serve as the college marshal at Penn State College of the Liberal Arts spring commencement on May 10 at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park. She will graduate with degrees in Spanish and integrative science and will continue research while applying to medical school next year.  Penn State
  • President Neeli Bendapudi said the decision on closing 12 Penn State Commonwealth Campuses is delayed until after the May 9 Board of Trustees meeting — a change from her initial plan to decide by the end of spring. The campuses will remain open through the 2026 to 2027 school year and the university will offer affected students a way to finish their degrees.  Onward State
  • Penn State’s Lion Caucus and Advocate Penn State will host Capital Day On Campus at University Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, April 25 at the HUB-Robeson Center Aquarium and Monumental Staircase to let students share their stories and urge fair state funding—event features giveaways like cookies, pizza, ice cream, and Advocate Penn State swag as well as a 3 p.m. program with campus speakers.  Penn State

  • After the new assembly was sworn in, the undergraduate body elected Katarina Hogan as speaker and Maguire Younes as vice speaker to lead the legislative branch. The assembly also chose committee chairs including Noah Youcheff, Madar Samakab, Vel Shan, Maria Lopez, and Ayden Meise.  Daily Collegian

  • Penn State Men’s Hockey has signed transfer defenseman Mac Gadowsky (son of head coach Guy Gadowsky) who will join the team for the 2025-26 season. He broke records at Army and was named a Top 10 Hobey Baker finalist.  Daily Collegian
  • Penn State’s new running back coach, Stan Drayton, said he sees a national championship feel at the school after just 10 practices and 60 days on the job. He noted his many years of coaching — with teams like Florida, Ohio State, and Allegheny — show that a player-led team can succeed.  StateCollege.com
